Deepika Padukone is living the best phase of her career so far. Presenting Oscars 2023, headlining the biggest Bollywood projects, and ruling the brand endorsements—DP is doing it all. But her journey hasn’t been a walk in the park. In her 16-year-old career, DP has faced massive political backlash simply for doing her job. The actress kept her chin up and didn’t let the trolls pull her down.
DP’s latest release Pathaan ruffled a lot of feathers simply ‘coz she played a Pakistani spy in the blockbuster. It all started when her song Beshraam Rang dropped online. Trolls bashed Deepika’s saffron bikini and sensual moves. The title of the song, which roughly translates to ‘shameless colour’, led to massive political dissent.
Before this, DP’s other big 2017 release Padmaavat also stirred controversy. The actress was accused of showing Queen Padmaavati in a negative light. In fact, a fringe Rajasthan group threatened the actress with physical harm!
In the face of these two huge personal attacks online, Deepika maintained her grace and calm. After keeping mum for a while, the Cocktail actress spoke of how she faced the wrath of people.
While speaking to an international magazine, Deepika shared, “I don’t know if I’m supposed to feel something about it. But the truth is, I don’t feel anything about it.“
In all honesty, in the face of unnecessary attacks and hate, the best thing to do is stay above it. Throughout her career, Deepika has refused to entertain trolls ‘coz she doesn’t give them any value.
It is hard to protect yourself from toxicity when you are a public figure, but Deepika has clearly aced it. You do you, DP!
