A year has passed, or so it feels because January is still going on! While we have been waiting for it to get over (especially me because February is my birthday month), something good has finally hit us in 2020. Bridal couturier Sabyasachi Mukherjee has just dropped his first collection for summer 2020 titled ‘The Neo-Bohemian’.
Block prints, saturated colours, multicultural mirrorwork murals, patchwork and asymmetric geometry are boasting the collection. From India’s Jaipur, Kutch and Thar to Morocco’s Marrakech, Sabyasachi’s Neo-Bohemian theme truly looks promising down to the words. Dear Sabyasachi brides-to-be, are you reading this?
‘Wear a print, layer a print, everywhere a print-print’ is the overarching theme of this collection and Sabyasachi is pushing us to opt for head-to-toe prints. Honestly, he had us at “Neo”. This is the first drop of the five-part series and comes with gorgeous lehengas, khadi sarees, modern kurtas and voluminous shararas for all your wedding functions including mehendi, sangeet and shaadi. But what we are eyeing in this collection the most is that bucket bag which Sabya is calling ‘The Nani Bucket’. Notice how it’s complementing all the different kinds of outfits in the pictures above? There’s no better accessory a bride could ask for given how expensive weddings already are. Finally, an ethnic bag that works with all kinds of Indianwear. If that’s not Nani-approved, nothing is and nothing will be.
In fact, I can totally picture myself carrying this bag with the classic blue jeans and white shirt combination too! I don’t even have to be getting married for that bag. Sabya, just take my money already.
The sling bag comes with a gold chain, multicoloured work on the body and the signature Sabyasachi logo. Apart from the brown faux leather version, the Nani bucket also comes in a second style… with what looks like maroon rexine and printed velvet. Ugh, why so pretty!
Our calculations suggest that this bag will set you back at least Rs 50,000!
The second drop of the five-part series will be released tonight on Sabyasachi’s Instagram. It’s called ‘Modern Folklore’ and going by the hints he has been dropping, this collection will be heavily dominated by black. We’re expecting tribal prints, colour-blocking, deeper necklines and Sabya’s boundless whimsy on it. Can’t wait to get taken over by his black magic!
