Fashion’s biggest event of the year, the MET Gala is all set to take place on the first Monday of May. The theme for May 1, 2023, is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which is set to pay homage to the late iconic designer, Karl Lagerfeld.
Over the last two years, the Gala’s buzz was kept low due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But with the world back on its feet, fashion’s biggest stars are all set to put their best foot forward this year. To hop in on the buzz, I took a trip down memory lane to recall some of the boldest makeup looks celebrities sported on the red carpet. Take a look!
Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s Eccentric Look
At the 2019 MET Gala, our Desi Girl made heads turn when she walked the red carpet in a silver dress. But it was her makeup that stole the show. PeeCee’s hair was permed, her eyebrows painted white shimmery purple eyeshadow on her lids and white liner on her under eyes. A plum-hued lipstick, rosy cheeks and splatters of white all over her face made for one of the edgiest looks the Citadel actress has sported to date!
Kendall Jenner’s Bleached Eyebrows
Kendall’s commitment to her look truly needs to be applauded, because I could never do what she did. At the MET Gala 2022, the supermodel walked the steps in an opulent black outfit and makeup that defined her eyes. Her eyebrows, however, were bleached to a light blonde shade that showed off her experimental side.
Lady Gaga’s Exaggerated Lashes
Never one to disappoint, at the 2019 MET Gala, Gaga donned a bright pink floor-sweeping gown and paired it with a platinum blonde wig. What hit the ball out of the park though, was her fluttery exaggerated lashes and eyeliner that extended all the way out to her hairline!
Kim Kardashian’s Wet Hairdo
The 2019 MET Gala was really one for the books! Kim Kardashian’s Mugler outfit may have got people talking, but it was her wet hairdo that did it for me. The reality tv star really helped the beauty trend blow up by sporting it at the biggest fashion event. Paired with airbrushed makeup and smokey eyes, it was one of the star’s edgiest looks.
Deepika Padukone’s Purple-Inspired Makeup
The reigning queen of Bollywood pulled off a Barbie look at the 2019 MET Gala in a glittery pink Zac Posen ballgown. Her hair and makeup were on point with her locks pulled up in a sky-high voluminous ponytail, purple winged liner, and a deep wine-hued lipstick.
Kylie Jenner’s Purple Hair
The beauty mogul made purple the unofficial colour of 2019 when she sported a purple Versace feathered dress to the MET Ball. For the additional oomph, she sported a matching purple wig featuring poker-straight hair, that stole the limelight!
Zendaya’s Perm
The Euphoria star who slays every time she’s on a red carpet, looked fiery at the 2017 MET Gala. The wow factor of Zendaya’s look was undoubtedly her permed hair which was a stark contrast against her dainty floral ball gown. A basic red lip was all she needed to ace the look on the red carpet!
