Fatima Sana Shaikh, better known for her ass-kicking (literally) role in Aamir Khan’s Dangal, likes to keep a low profile. But as it happens to anyone who joins Bollywood, her life is now a hot topic.
In a recent interview with a popular entertainment portal, Fatima opened up about a lot of things including her ongoing project with Rajkummar Rao and Anurag Basu, failure of her last film Thugs of Hindostan and… Aamir Khan.
The news of Fatima and Aamir’s rumoured affair is still fresh in our minds although the actress rubbished the reports in a statement earlier this year. The two are close friends and often hang out together. In fact, Fatima celebrated Eid with Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao at their residence last year.
In yesterday’s interview, Fatima said, “The quality of all successful actors is the same that they are passionate about their work and they are disciplined. This is what I saw in AK (Aamir Khan).” She went on to say that she sees the same passion in Bachchan sir (Amitabh Bachchan) and Rajkummar Rao as well.
Fatima worked with Aamir in Dangal and Thugs of Hindostan, with Big B in Thugs, and is currently working with Rajkummar in an Anurag Basu film. “The behavioural pattern is the same and it is what sets them apart, it is their dedication… I am very fortunate to get an opportunity to work with such good people,” she added.

Talking about Thugs‘ failure at the box office, she said, “I don’t think doing Thugs was a bad choice for me and I think that is why I don’t feel bad or have second thoughts about saying yes to a movie if I like it. I am someone who goes by instinct. Even if it is wrong I will realise it later on. But at least I will learn, once the product is out.”
She went on to add, “[I]f I am getting into a project, the process needs to be exciting for me, the moment I start questioning my own gut instinct or do things which other people want me to do, I won’t be able to deliver it.” Well, that’s honest.
When asked about her experience with Anurag Basu, she said, “He is a genius. He is constantly thinking. If he has an idea, he will keep working on it and keep making it better till the very end. Only he knows what he wants. There is so much of love for his work, and his energy that I couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
Earlier in January, Fatima posted a picture of Basu on the set of the film with the caption: “Unreal! Life changing! Shooting with @anuragsbasu is like being backstage with a magician. Magical…. #anuragbasu.”
When asked who she sees herself working with next, she said, “There is a huge bucket list including Shah Rukh Khan and Ranveer, Ranbir, Varun. I really like these guys a lot… I absolutely love the kind of world Bhansali creates. The typical Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam type love and tragic love story. I absolutely love it.”
