A 3-Step Guide To Washing Curly Hair The Right Way

It is no surprise that curly hair requires different care. This hair texture is wildly opposite to that of straight hair. So there’s no doubt that a haircare routine meant for straight hair just won’t cut it for curly textures. And it isn’t just about specific curly hair products and styling methods either. We are talking about the whole deal, including how you wash curly hair. Washing curly hair incorrectly can do more damage than good. There are certain rules to washing curls that do not apply to straight hair beauties but are incredibly important for curly-haired people. A good curly hair wash routine can help your CG styling method be less cumbersome and even reduce hair damage, knots, and breakage. Here’s a guide to washing curls correctly so that they look and feel gloriously healthy.

A Curly Hair Wash Routine In 3 Simple Steps

Step 1: Pre Wash Prep

Curls are typically prone to dryness more than any other hair type. Usually, it is recommended that this hair type avoid washing with shampoos too often. But an irregular hair wash schedule can also lead to more dryness on the scalp, product buildup, and dandruff. That’s why you can maintain washing your hair at the most twice every week, but make sure to hydrate with hair oil an hour before. This pre shampoo hair oil treatment will ensure your hair stays protected from damage and does not get excessively dry. A moisturising hair oil consisting of natural carrier oils that are rich in vitamin E or fatty acids is ideal for curls before shampooing.

Step 2: Shampoo Shots

Always make sure your shampoo is formulated without sulphates, parabens, and other harsh chemicals. Nature infused shampoos that contain no nasties and promise to be immensely moisturising are a stellar choice to wash your curls with. Such shampoos do not strip away excess moisture and they deliver essential nourishment so that your scalp is well balanced and your roots are strong and frizz-free. Do not pour the shampoo directly on your hair. Pump it out in your palm and then apply it section by section on your scalp. After placing the shampoo all over your scalp, wet your fingers and massage it into your scalp. Rinse it out well with water.

Step 3: Conditioner Cues

Never, ever, skip conditioner after shampoo. You will be putting your hair health in jeopardy if you avoid conditioner. That being said, when it comes to applying conditioner on curly hair, you need to first gently squeeze out the excess water from your hair. Once that’s done, liberally apply conditioner along the lengths of your hair. Now for the important part: detangle your lengths with your fingers after you have applied conditioner. This hack will help disperse the conditioner evenly all over and will also remove knots. Detangling your hair when the conditioner is on is much easier and reduces breakage tenfold. Since you can’t comb or brush your hair when dry, detangling in the shower is super important. Let the conditioner sit for 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse off with cool water.
