In the US, the Moderna vaccine was authorised by the Food and Drug Administration for emergency use. While the early data states the vaccine proved to be effective against the virus, people with cosmetic facial fillers have experienced mild facial swelling after taking the second dose.
In an interview with a popular digital magazine, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Samuel-Lin, MD, said that three reports of patients with a history of cosmetic fillers who have experienced mild swelling after taking the vaccine shot. It’s yet unclear if it was the vaccine that caused the reaction or some other health factor.
While there is no proof yet for this, if you’re worried and have cosmetic fillers, maybe you should wait for 3-6 months before getting another cosmetic filler or get vaccinated and wait it out before you get fillers.

With only a few reported cases, it’s not enough proof to conclude whether it was only the vaccine behind these allergic reactions or something else. Most doctors recommend taking an antihistamine before getting vaccinated. However, it’s better to first consult your doctor before consuming any medication. Your health, age and medical history, are the deciding factors whether you should get vaccinated or not.
Just a reminder: Who should avoid the vaccine? According to Bharat Biotech’s fact sheet people who are on heavy medication, have a blood disorder, have taken another covid vaccine, have serious health-related history, pregnant women, prone to allergic reactions, or nursing moms, should not get vaccinated.
