On July 15th, India’s most ambitious space mission yet, Chandrayaan-2 was called off less than an hour before the scheduled blast-off. The GSLV Mark III rocket was put on hold just 56 minutes before it was all set to go up from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The launch was scrapped by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) because of a ‘technical snag’.
While the world eagerly awaited for the rocket, carrying a ‘billion dreams’ to soar into the skies, ISRO tweeted about calling off the launch, “A technical snag was observed in launch vehicle system at 1 hour before the launch. As a measure of abundant precaution, #Chandrayaan2 launch has been called off for today. Revised launch date will be announced later,” ISRO tweeted around 3 am.
A week after, ISRO has successfully launched Chandrayaan 2 at 2.43 pm today (July 22). The goal behind the launch of Chandrayaan-2 is to explore the Moon’s South polar region for the signs of water and new origins of energy.
Yesterday, ISRO announced a 20-hour countdown for the launch at 6.43 pm.

According to the latest update on ISRO’s Twitter account, filling of Liquid Hydrogen for the Cryogenic Stage (C25) of Chandrayaan 2 has been completed.
This is India’s second Moon mission that comes 11 years after ISRO’s first lunar mission Chandrayaan-1. The mission had created history by creating as many as 3,400 orbits around the Moon.
