You know what I enjoy the most about a celebrity wedding? Checking out the breathtaking details in the bridal ensemble. I’m always eager to know the designer they chose and the customisation that went into the outfit. However, some celeb brides took a road less travelled. They ditched the designer labels and wore heirloom outfits worn by their mothers or mothers-in-law.
Here are all the celebrity brides who went with something old and something borrowed.
Yami Gautam
Yami Gautam’s wedding pics were like a breath of fresh air. Not only her wedding, but her attire exuded simplicity and elegance. She got married in a traditional pahadi ceremony and wore her mother’s red saree for her special day.
Gul Panag
In 2011, Gul Panag married her friend and pilot Rishi Attari wearing a bubblegum pink saree, which belonged to her mother. She even wore her mother-in-law’s lehenga on her sangeet.
Kareena Kapoor Khan
Kareena Kapoor aka Bebo is anything but basic. For her wedding to Saif Ali Khan, she wore her mother-in-law, Sharmila Tagore’s, golden heirloom gharara set and exuded royalty. Sharmila wore the vintage dress at her own nikah in 1962.
Sonam Kapoor Ahuja
Sonam Kapoor’s wedding ensemble is the most talked about to date. For one, her Anuradha Valmiki bridal outfit was reportedly for Rs 70-90 lakhs. However, she balanced it all out by adding her mom, Sunita Kapoor’s jewels to the ensemble.
Miheeka Bajaj
Miheeka Bajaj tied the knot with actor Rana Daggubati and wore her mother’s bridal lehenga for the bhat ceremony. She looked absolutely stunning and from no where did the outfit look dated.
Sania Mirza
Ace tennis player Sania Mirza tied the knot with Pak cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2011. Sania wore a red bridal saree that her mother had worn at her own nikah 33 years ago. Interestingly, Sania had decided to wear the saree ever since she was a teenager.
Nikarika Konidela
South Indian actress Nikarika Konidela wore her mother’s 32-year-old saree at her pre-wedding ritual called pellikuthuru. However, Nikarika added her own spin to the outfit and switched her mother’s solid blouse with an embroidered one.
Isha Ambani
You might be shocked to see Isha Ambani on this list! For her D-day, Isha wore an exquisite lehenga choli set from Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. However, she added her mother’s 35-year-old wedding saree as a dupatta in her wedding outfit.
Well, I can’t think of a better way to pay homage to the lovely ladies in our lives. I don’t know about you, but I feel inspired to wear my mother’s outfit as well.
