Cardi B understood the assignment. The bombshells ‘do billowing around the head was the first indication of a well-rounded, on-point look. She, then, went on to embellish the eyes with a sharp cat-eye that laddered all the way up to the end of her cut-crease; further tying it all together. The ’90s supermodel lips did much of the talking. But the look’s pièce de résistance? It has to be the nails.
Though the rapper’s not alien to the concept of extensions (the affair between the two was so serious that it had netizens questioning how the mother managed to change diapers while sporting talons), she chose to solidify her love for the look with the brightest splash of yellow on the lacquers.
Yellow has quickly become one of the most sought-after colours in Hollywood — nail-artist Tom Bachik recently popularised the trend by displaying a sunset-inspired shade on Selena Gomez’s medium-length, squoval-shaped lacquers for the Calm Down MV. While that was more cool-toned, Cardi B’s lacquers model a warmer hue of the colour. Not just that, the latter’s nails are a fusion of two of this year’s most talked-about nail art trends — one being the choice of colour, and the other being the cluster of crystals adorning two of the nails. Most cannot imagine not peppering their nails with gems or rhinestones these days.
While almond and squoval-shaped tips have asserted themselves as the year’s it-girl nail-art staple, Cardi’s tips are raging loyalists of stilettos and squares — clearly, a case of the latter as seen in the photo. But she has experimented with other shapes in the past, and one of them earned itself a lot of detractors.
The duck-feet manicure has more detractors than subscribers — with many shaming the nail art trend for how chunky it is. This manicure is hallmarked by a flared, stretched-out tip that’s likened to the appearance of a duck’s feet. Notice how they widen at the tip instead of tapering in. Cardi B’s manicure was embellished with white French tips and cherries, and other photos posted by the rapper display charms and spangles accenting the tips too. Yeah. It was quite the look.
