The Academy Awards 2022 night is surely going down the history annals as one of the most ‘action-packed’ ones. IYKYK! We have a lot of opinions on the red carpet that was equally eventful, in a more conventional sense of the word though. Let’s just begin by saying that it is after years that we have witnessed more hits than flops in the sartorial department at the Oscars red carpet. So glorious were some of the looks that Oscars 2021 red carpet appears like a dress rehearsal in comparison now. The reigning theme was all things pastels and pretty with a subtle peppering of metallics and failproof reds and blacks. All in all, the Oscars 2022 red carpet did well to our fashion crazed hearts by unleashing some high octane glamm. That established, it is sort of unfair to delay the gratification of marvelling at the ounces of tulle and glitter that took over the 94th Academy Awards red carpet. So without further ado scroll through for our top favourite looks from the night and be warned that there are going to be a lot of them:
Megan Thee Stallion In Gaurav Gupta
Designer Gaurav Gupta is riding a career-high right now. Days after we spotted Cardi B in a structured GG creation, Megan Thee Stallion stole the show in the designer’s outfit last night and gurlll, did she put up a show! Dipped in space blue, the 3D structured dress featured a ruffled trail, plunge neckline, and a waist cut out detail. We stan the generous smattering of sequins and metallic embellishments all over the gown’s body and the delicate fin-like details that add a slitted effect to the outfit.
Kristen Stewert In Chanel
It takes guts to tread one of the biggest award show red carpets in hot pants. Kristen Stewart has got lots of them. She opted for a pair of Chanel shorts for the occasion and styled them with a tailored tuxedo jacket and an unbuttoned silk shirt in white. As it turns out, this is the first time anybody has worn hot pants in the history of Oscars and it sounds only fitting that Kristen did the honours.
Lily James In Versace
Continuing her love affair with red carpet pastels, Lily James showed up in a pale pink Versace gown and gave us one of the most standout looks of the night. The tulle hem and the chantilly lace trims added a touch of whimsy and freshness to the look. The scalloped finish along the slit is our favourite detail about this dress.
Zoë Kravitz In Saint Laurent
The Batman actress gave a little bit of Audrey and a little bit of Zoë or let’s just say the best of both worlds at the Oscars 2022 red carpet. She exuded princessy vibes in her soft pink Saint Laurent gown that had our attention for the cinched waist and the tiny bow detail on the chest. The actress finished off the look with a tennis necklace and by highlighting her baby pink. Safe to say that if it was mandated for all the celebs to do a course in red carpet dress up, Zoë Kravitz would have topped that class.
Lupita Nyong’o In Prada
Speaking of red carpet marvels who never disappoint, it is only fitting that we discuss Lupita Nyong’o at this point. The actress chose a metallic Prada dress for the event and looked like a firework. Her sheeny dress was embellished with oversized sequins and featured gold fringes, waist down.
Emilia Jones In Dolce & Gabbana
Another steller metallic look was served at the Oscars red carpet by Emilia Jones in a sleek Dolce & Gabbana gown. From the structured bustier to the cut-out waist and the halter neckline, we love it all. That said, it is the ombre metallic effect that transitions from silver at the top to a rich gold at the bottom that happens to be the standout detail here.
Ariana DeBose In Valentino
We love a functional red carpet outfit, the kind that defies convention and looks uber cool. Ariana DeBose’s custom Valentino is a precise representation. We dig the flared albeit structured trousers and the fact that they have pockets! Her matching bustier and the trailing cape add drama to the look that is aptly elevated with minimal diamond jewels.
Jada Pinkett Smith In Jean Paul Gaultier By Glenn Martens
Jada Pinkett Smith—the turner of heads, the starter of storms— really did put up a show at Oscars 2022. In a sharp departure from dainty couture, the actress opted for a Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture by Glenn Martens voluminous dress. The jewel-hued taffeta gown stood out from the rest owing to its ruched, high neck bodice that featured a zip-up detail on the front.
Demi Sinlgton In Miu Miu
Demi Singleton’s Miu Miu dress is a masterpiece. It is sharp, has a personality, and everything that a conventionally “beautiful” dress comprises. We love the dreamy lavender colour and the strategically placed embellishments in just a shade darker than the base hue. There are no frills and flounces in sight, just sharp lines that give it a stately appeal.
Zendaya In Valentino
Zendaya is a brand of her own at this point and her Oscars 2022 outfit did justice to the persona. The Valentino outfit comprised a white silk crop shirt, with slightly puffed sleeves and was matched with a trailing fitted skirt. Save to predict we are gonna see a gazillion iterations of the crop shirt soon.
Saniyya Sidney In Giorgio Armani
The magic wasn’t in Saniyya Sidney’s Giorgio Armani gown but the way she carried it. Just look at her twirling with that million-dollar smile. Saniyya really did feel like a princess there!
Tell us fam, which one of these Oscars 2022 red carpet looks did you like the most?
