And to commemorate the season of statement-making headgears, bejeweled bodices, and snatched makeup, we’re rounding up some of our favourite Met Gala beauty looks of all time.

Best Of Beauty: The Top Met Gala Beauty Looks

Rihanna, Met Gala 2017

Rihanna resurrected a 70s-era aesthetic at the 2017 Met Gala: a flush of fuchsia sitting atop the lids, diffusing to the sides of the eyes, migrating to the forehead, and dripping down to the cheeks dramatically. It glistened, sparkled, swiveled heads, and, eventually, metamorphosed into a trend for the runways. Further glamourised by tints of plum on the lips, Rihanna trail-blazed her way through the night with a slicked-back bun framed by poker-straight-bangs.

Priyanka Chopra, Met 2019

Priyanka was dripping in white. With chalk-white swirls embellishing her under-eyes, and dustings of white accentuating the tips of her lashes, she climaxed the aesthetic with silver-frosted eyebrows. She juxtaposed the accents of white with raspberry-tinted lips, cheeks, and lids, and concluded with an afro-like ‘do dramatised by a spike-laden crown. Sure, the internet was conflicted about this look; but, hey, it was experimental and memorable—and if that doesn’t capture the essence of the Met, we don’t know what does.

Beyoncé, Met 2015

Beyoncé’s Barbie-like ‘do underscored this look. Despite staging a last-minute arrival, Queen Bey turned heads on that night. She stunned in a shoulder-grazing, sky-high ponytail softened by golden-hued, tumbling curls—better-known as the culprit behind her conspicuous absence at the start of the event. A cat-eyed flick, set against a subtle smoked-out eye, contrasted the minimalism of the rest of her look.

Lady Gaga, Met 2019

Lady Gaga’s 2019 look was an aggressive nod to her theatrical alter-ego—with 5-inch-long lashes fanned outward in bizarre proportions toward her outer-eyes to play into the cat-eye aesthetic of the look. Coupled with crystal teardrops trickling down her eyes, and a cluster of gems bordering the upper lash-line, the singer’s look was punctuated by the thickest flicks of black and white under the eyes, a stamp of pink on the lips and cheeks, and mini hair-bows framing her bob.

Blake Lively, Met 2018

Blake’s appearances are much-anticipated by her fans, and we see why. The Gossip Girl actress descends upon the Met prepared. While she ornamented her soft ‘do with a halo hair-piece, her eyes were drenched in red-brown shades, and the apples of her cheeks sported a rose-flushed glow.

Billie Eilish, Met 2021

Billie’s modern-day Marilyn Monroe alter-ego surprised us just as much as it did you. A deviation from her everyday look, she graced the steps of the Met with her beach-blonde tresses shaped into a wavy bob reminiscent of Monroe’s aesthetic. A subtle cat-eye complemented the ‘do—with smudges of black teetering under her eyes—and a nude lip-liner lent a splash of vibrance to the look.

Kim Kardashian, Met 2019

Kim K raised temperatures with her ‘mermaid-emerging-out-of-the-water’ wet-glam—gloss-dripping lips, contoured cheekbones, and dewy skin tied the look together, and lustre-laden tresses were declared the look’s show-stopper as the billionaire sashayed down the carpet in all her hourglass glory.

Lupita Nyongo’o, Met 2019

Lupita headlined the 2019 Met Gala with pops of rainbow-inspired colours saturating the area around her eyes. The intent was to exaggerate, and it was delivered. While her glitter-laden cut-crease and dark-purple lips did serve, her golden-hued Afro hair-picks ate.

Deepika Padukone, Met 2019

Was it a Wednesday by any chance? Because Deepika was drowning in hues of pink. The Piku actor fashioned her look with a bouffant-like ponytail accessorised by a chunky hair-gear for a statement-making finish. A smattering of purple-hued, winged-out eyeshadow packed into her lids, stains of wine on the lips, and rose-coloured cheeks cemented this look as one of her boldest ever.
