Are You Even Applying Your Moisturiser The Right Way?

I love moisturising my skin. So does my mother. But there’s one thing that sets us apart, and it’s the technique that we rely on to maximise the efficacy of our respective moisturisers. While I simply apply the product onto my face and then massage it in, my mother does something different at this point in her routine.

It got me thinking. What’s the best way to apply moisturiser? I’ve roped in Dr. Madhuri Agarwal, Founder and Medical Director of Yavana Skin Aesthetics, to break it down for me. Check it out.

My Mother’s Way Of Moisturising

She rubs the product between her palms before patting it onto her face. Much like Hailey in the first few seconds of the video. Many do it this way to add some warmth to the product; enabling it to spread and absorb into the skin easily. But in doing so, they render it ineffective. Here’s what Dr. Agrawal has to say about the technique of application.

What’s The Right Way To Apply Moisturiser

Dr. Agrawal believes that directly applying the moisturiser to the skin via the fingertips is the best. The rationale behind this thought is scientific and simple. Just like your face absorbs products, so does the skin on your hands. Applying moisturiser on the hands will cause it to seep into your palms; leaving behind little to no product for the face to benefit from.

This sounds like a criminal waste of product; unless your goal is to moisturise your palms.

Dr. Agrawal’s advice applies to sunscreens, serums, and the rest of your products as well. Simply stipple your skin with a few drops of your product and massage it in for maximum absorption, and thus, results.

The Best Moisturisers Of All Time

That’s how simple it is. Thanks for the tip, doc!
