In the last couple of years, roasting videos on YouTube have turned into a popular way of getting views and engagement in no time. But sometimes, the roasts turn into a dumping ground for body shaming, misogyny, racism and ageism. Recently, Mukesh Ambani’s youngest son Anant Ambani became a target of one such roast video. One of India’s most popular YouTubers Ajey Nagar mocked Anant in a video and it caused a massive controversy.
Allow me to give you some context first. It all started when Carry shared a video mocking fellow YouTubers—Gaurav Taneja (The Flying Beast), Gaurav Chaudhary (Technical Guruji), Sourav Joshi, and Armaan Malik. It was all done in good spirits but Carry unnecessarily dragged Anant into the video. Scroll down to take a look:
Soon after Ajay’s video went viral, an X tweet started going viral suggesting that Anant is planning to sue Carry. The tweet read, “CarryMinati, you are just a YouTuber and not a brand personality, that’s why make videos within limits, #Gauravchaudhary Aka Technical Guruji’s roasting video, whatever you have said about Ambani, #delete it otherwise legal action will be taken against you.” Many X users re-shared the tweet claiming that the Ambani clan is miffed with the Youtube star and he would face multiple lawsuits now.
Turns out, it was a case of misinformation! It is a well-known fact that the Ambani clan keeps their distance from social media. To check it further, I tried searching for the original tweet and Anant’s alleged X account but there was nothing on the micro-blogging platform.
When it comes to social media, it is best to verify the stories before jumping to conclusions. On a personal note, while I love roasting videos, mocking people for their physical appearance is below the belt. Your humour shouldn’t be based on insulting someone. Anant might have ignored the whole fiasco, but it still isn’t okay. Here’s hoping Ajay realises that!
