The Cast
Everything Everywhere All At Once movie is co-directed by Daniel Kawn and Daniel Scheinert. Michelle Yeoh is in the lead as Evelyn Quan Wang, Ke Huy Quan as Evelyn’s husband Waymond Wang, and Stephanie Hus as Evelyn’s daughter Joy Wang. It also stars Jamie Lee Curtis, James Hong, Jenny Slate, and Harry Shum Jr.
Interestingly, the co-directors had Jackie Chan in mind before casting Michelle as the lead. Later, they decided to have a female protagonist to make the husband-wife dynamics more relatable. Originally, the directors also wanted to name Michelle Yeoh’s character ‘Michelle Wang’ but decided to name her ‘Evelyn’ after the actress opposed it. Michelle believed that ‘Evelyn’ deserved her own journey and her own story.
The film also marks actor Ke Huy Quan’s comeback. The actor decided to retire in 2002 due to lack of opportunities. He has been a part of hit movies like Indiana Jones And The Temple of Doom (1984) and The Goonies (1985).

The Plot
This American comedy-drama film revolves around Evelyn Wang, a Chinese-American who runs a laundromat with her husband Waymond Wang. They both eloped to the USA and have a daughter named Joy. One day while being audited by the IRS, Waymond’s body is taken over by Alpha-Waymond who is from a different universe.
Alpa-Waymond tries to explain to Evelyn how there are many parallel universe that exist and can be travelled through ‘verse-technology’. He then tells her that the multiverse is now threatened by Jobu Tupaki, who is the Alphaverse avatar of Joy. What follows next is a fun ride for Evelyn and her family.
Everything Everywhere All At Once also took inspiration from a few films like In The Mood For Love (2000), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and Ratatouille ( 2007).
The movie is currently streaming on SonyLiv. After the Oscar win, I can’t wait to binge watch it ASAP!
