Throwback To When Alia Bhatt Commented On Taylor Swift’s “Many Boyfriends”

When Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra made their debut with Student Of The Year, many predicted there would be fireworks. That’s exactly what happened! Soon after the film’s release, gossip mills were abuzz with rumours of Sid and Alia dating. But that’s not it. Reportedly, after breaking up with Sidharth, Alia also briefly dated Varun during the Badrinath Ki Dulhania days. But none of the actors ever denied or confirmed these rumours.

Later in a 2016 interview with HuffPost, Alia talked about the decision to keep her relationships private. Some excerpts from the interview just resurfaced and people are not happy with how the actress problematically compared herself with Taylor Swift.

When Alia Compared Herself With Taylor Swift!

Alia made some tone-deaf remarks about Taylor Swift while explaining why she doesn’t talk about her love life in public. She said, “In India, you are part of a society that’s very judgemental. Here, girls having multiple boyfriends is still a huge-ass deal and something that is frowned upon.” to this, she further added, “I mean, look at Taylor Swift. She’s dated, like, everybody. But if she was here, she’d be totally shamed for making those choices. Her image and appeal would be very different. The reason actresses don’t talk about their private lives is that in our society there is a lot of slut-shaming. Eventually, I have a responsibility and I have to protect myself.

However, this statement did not sit well with netizens who are now calling out Alia. Some even pointed out how Alia is herself shaming Taylor. Here are some of the comments:

Throwback To The #BoycottBrahmastra Trend

This is not the first time the Gangubai Kathiawadi actress has received flak for her statement. During one of the interviews for Bhramastra, Alia was asked about her opinion on the boycott trend against Bollywood. She said, “If you don’t like me, don’t watch me. I can’t help it.” This soon led to a huge controversy and #BoycottBrahmastra kept trending on Twitter for days!

Well, it is never okay to pull down other women to justify yourself. But it has been years since Alia’s interview and I hope she has learnt her lesson!
