Interviews are part and parcel of every celebrity’s life and who doesn’t love watching a celebrity spilling some beans. But sometimes watching a celebrity interview can feel like watching a magic trick gone wrong. Interviewers going out of line and invading their privacy can make celebs uncomfortable. It can even end up damaging their public image. This is exactly what happened to Aishwarya Rai back in 2004!
In 2004, when Aishwarya Rai had just broken up with Salman Khan and she was allegedly in a relationship with Vivek Oberoi, Aish gave an interview to a reputed news channel. It seemed like the interviewer, Chetan Sharma, was trying his best to get on Aishwarya’s last nerve. He began by asking her how she had “not struck the right chord with the Khan-daans.” Aish was said to be feuding with all of the Khans at the time. Aish, on the other hand, handled the questions with grace.
At the time, there had also been tittle-tattle about Aishwarya being replaced for roles opposite the Khans, like in Kal Ho Na Ho and Mangal Pandey. The interviewer felt no shame in bringing up that topic as well. Aishwarya responded to this by saying, “The producer, in fact, rendered me an apology for the fact that he went out of line in speaking the way that he did to the media because of the pressures that he went through. There was a disagreement between him and my agents and I had not received the script at all.”
Chetan Sharma did not stop here. He then went on to push the actress’ buttons by bringing up her pet dog, Sunshine. He asked, “We believe the latest sunshine in your life is actually a dog.” When Aish replied that her dog has been with her for almost two years now, he interrupted her by asking whether the dog was a gift from Vivek Oberoi. Aishwarya simply shut him down by saying, “Why don’t you just wait for an autobiography?”

The bizarre and inappropriate questions were not even the worst part of the interview. Throughout the interview, Chetan Sharma kept interrupting Aishwarya and cutting her sentence midway. He was not only crossing a boundary but also being extremely disrespectful. In the video, we can even hear Aishwarya’s team trying to stop the interview. This interview caused such havoc, that the interviewer was even fired for it!
Well, celebrity interviews are all fun and games until personal questions start raining down. Interviewers should keep the vibe light, the questions brighter, and remember that a celeb’s personal life is like a vault—some things are better left locked away!
