The party season has finally come to an end and we can all just go back to our normal routines for a bit. That means not putting a bucket load of makeup every day and going to sleep in the wee hours of the morning. Less sleep, alcohol consumption, and sleeping with makeup on, can do a number on your skin in terms of dullness, puffiness, and sometimes even breakouts. If this feels like we’re talking about you then you might be in need of a detox sesh to make it feel healthy and energised once again. From simple, natural remedies to easy-to-follow skincare steps, here are the best ways to detoxify your skin after the party season.
5 Steps To Detoxify Your Skin After Consecutive Nights About Town
The Clay Way
The best way to draw out deep-rooted impurities from your skin is with a clay mask. Ideally, this is the first step to detoxifying your skin as it works twice as hard as a cleanser or gel mask. It is ideal to start off with clean skin, so rinse your face with a mild cleanser and then apply a clay mask to draw out deeper-rooted impurities. We recommend using bentonite clay for this step as it is the ultimate skin detoxifying agent which not only draws out impurities but also delivers essential minerals to the skin. Create a detoxifying face pack by mixing 2 tablespoons of bentonite clay with a bit of water to form a thick paste. Apply this clay pack on cleansed skin and let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes until it dries up completely. You can then rinse with lukewarm water.
Refreshments
After drawing out impurities with cleansers and clay masks, do not forget to hydrate your skin. This is where a nature-infused toner or a hydrating essence comes in. We prefer hydrating ingredients over AHA or BHA infused toners because your skin needs some time to recover and shouldn’t be overwhelmed with too many active ingredients. A rosewater-infused face mist or a green tea toner is your best bet.
Serums To The Rescue
Opting for serum is highly beneficial when it comes to treating fatigued skin. It does all the heavy lifting in terms of targeting dullness, dark spots, and bacteria all while replenishing the skin’s barrier and offering a layer of protection underneath your moisturiser. Choose a serum according to your skin concerns or stick to serums infused with hyaluronic acid or niacinamide which are our all-time favourites.
Plumping Agents Galore
Now that your skin is prepped, it is time to moisturise. Look for hydrating & calming ingredients like ceramides, cica, and panthenol to give your skin a little extra love after your clay mask. BTW, you cannot skip a moisturiser because you used a serum. A serum’s primary role is to penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin, keeping it hydrated from the inside out. A moisturiser will ensure it locks in that hydration and keeps your skin soft and supple.
Massage All The Way
Using facial massage tools like the Gua Sha or jade roller doesn’t just help tone your face muscles, it also helps push out toxins that can get accumulated in your face area. Indulging in a face massage with your face tools will remove puffiness and help correct discolouration and sallowness. The idea is to roll out or push out toxins from the center of your face outwards and then downwards to your neck. Once you have reached your neck, use the tools to shake out the toxins from the center of your collar bone outwards to your shoulders. Make sure to massage with clean tools and that your skin is thoroughly moisturised before massaging.
