Ever wondered what it would be like to be a star kid? Imagine getting to visit film sets or attending A-list parties and getting filmy gyaan right from the Bollywood gurus. Man! That must be something, right? Plus, the best bit is being popular even before you’ve entered the industry. Of course, you’d have to prove yourself as an actor after that but that’s a different story. Wondering why we’re talking about celeb kids? It’s because a certain filmmaker’s daughter is in the limelight due to her short film debut. Any guesses? We’re talking about Anurag Kashyap’s daughter Aaliyah Kashyap.
Aaliyah has just made her film debut with a short movie titled Gayatri. If you’re thinking about the director of the flick then let us tell you that it isn’t her dad. The 3.45 minute-long film is directed by her close friend Ida Ali, daughter of filmmaker Imtiaz Ali.
Ida took to Instagram to share a link to the video. “Just a little short film my friends and I made for school,” she wrote. The plot revolves around a shy Indian girl named Gayatri, played by Aaliyah Kashyap, who moves to the US for studies. She is at a college party, feeling left out and decides to hide in a room. However, when the host finds her lurking in her room, they strike up a heartfelt conversation about giving people a chance. Gayatri ends up making a friend, who introduces her to the party. The film has received tons of compliments from their friends and fans.
Aaliyah and Ida are students at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. They’ve been pretty close-knit for a long time. In fact, in a YouTube video, the two recalled how the shoot for Imtiaz Ali’s film Tamasha had to be halted because they had gone missing.
Aaliyah shared that, “Corsica was definitely one of my favourite moments of us together. It was during this time when the incident happened.” Ida added, “And it was scary for everyone, the whole unit.” Aaliyah continued, “We decided to go for dinner, and we asked them. But we went farther than we said we were going to.” The duo revealed how they went to a restaurant and remembered that they did not have any phones with them at the time. When the bill arrived, they did not have enough money and Ida ran back to her dad, who was furious at her. Sounds like a typical teenage friendship no?
Oh BDW, if you’re eagerly waiting to see Aaliyah’s Bollywood debut then you might have to wait for some time. Anurag had previously said that he will not be giving his daughter a break as an actor. He shared that “She can’t wake up one day and say ‘I want to be an actor’. If she wants to do it, she has to struggle for it and go and audition for it and win a role somewhere.” Umm..looks like papa Kashyap is one tough cookie.
Koi na, we’re absolutely positive that Aaliyah will earn her debut role soonish. Looking forward to seeing her on the silver screen!
