Since the time she was crowned Miss World in 1994, Aishwarya Rai (now known as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) has become a household name. She’s been on the list of the most beautiful women in the world for as long as we can remember. And how can she not; those striking features, eyes that can look into your soul and a smile that can melt stone – she’s the epitome of Indian beauty.
Aishwarya began her acting career in 1997 with Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar. She’s come a long way since then! The diva apart from being the first Indian actress to be a Jury member at the Cannes International Film Festival also is the brand ambassador for L’Oreal Paris India. Every year, you’ll see her sparkle and shine and set beauty trends to break boundaries. She reigns over every red carpet event utmost poise and grace. While Aishwarya’s not been one to experiment with her makeup too much, her beauty evolution has been pretty dramatic. From nude lips to lavender lips, straight hair to short bangs, she’s done it all.
Here’s proof!
1997-2003 timeless, minimalistic
1997: Mani Ratnam’s Tamil Film Iruvaar
As a beautiful young girl who needs no makeup her naked skin and nude lips who would have thought that she’d be an inspiration for many generations to come?

1999: Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
If you have well-defined features like Ash, a classic and timeless a winged eyeliner, bold brows and nude lips are the perfect way to draw the attention to your face.
1999: Taal
Taal saw Aishwarya through a range of beauty looks. She was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award and Star Screen Award Best Actress for her performance in the movie. Use your finger to dab on some rust coloured lipstick to enhance your face on those no makeup days.
2000: Mohabbatein
Aishwarya was all about timeless beauty trends. The movie shows off her flawless skin and long hair in a series of braids, buns and minimalistic makeup.

2002: Devdas
Devdas was Aishwarya’s first international blockbuster. Her sex appeal through the movie can be felt through the dramatic eyes. Long, luscious lashes, winged liner and a bindi, if you’re wearing Indian clothes, will draw all of the attention to your eyes. If you have coloured eyes, a black or a brown eyeliner enhances their natural beauty.

2004 – 2010 constantly evolving
2004: Kyun! Ho Gaya Na…
Out of all of Aishwarya’s beauty looks, her look in this movie is probably my least favourite. She’s sporting everything right from tight curls, to dark lip liner with a lip gloss to a winged eyeliner and eyeshadow. A lot of times we tend to think the more, the better. When it comes to makeup, sometimes less is more.

2004: Bride and Prejudice
Bride and Prejudice was Aish’s first movie alongside a Hollywood actor. While the film received mixed reviews, her makeup was most certainly on point throughout the flick. The highlight and blush finally made it’s appearance here. It’s funny how a little bit of highlight and blush can pull your entire look together. A subtle highlighter dusted along the highpoints gives your skin a healthy glow.

2005: Shabd
Through the movie, Aish rocked a slightly smoked out eyeliner and we spotted a hint of bronzer too. A soft smoked out eyeliner gives an added sense of depth to the eyes. Use a blue, brown or a black eyeliner and smudge it out using your fingers or a brush.

2006: Dhoom 2
Dhoom 2 was a defining moment in Aishwarya’s career. She shed a few pounds for the movie and her makeup evolved too. You can see her with glowing skin and kohl-rimmed eyes throughout the movie. There’s no doubt that a kohl pencil makes any one of us look wide awake if you’re Indian a good Kohl is probably an essential for your beauty kit.

2008: Jodha Akbar
Aish plays a princess in the movie and her hair and makeup fully stand by the role. Soft, muted lips and brown eyeshadow are the way to go if you’re looking to give that no makeup look a small boost.

2010: Pink Panther 2
Pink Panther was an American movie featuring Ash where you can see her makeup has also been inspired by Bollywood. Pull your hair back into a sleek ponytail and pair it with a soft brown smokey eye and a little bit of blush, that’s it. Red carpet ready!

2011-2018 Bold Brows, Bold Lips and Ever Inspiring Choices!
2011: Cannes

Aishwarya’s look here was keepin’ it minimal. Bronze smokey lids and glossy lips made sure that her makeup wouldn’t overshadow her outfit. An elegant updo paired with a minimalistic smokey eye is definitely the way to keep things extremely classy.
2014: Cannes
Breaking through every stereotype, Aishwarya rocks everything bold. That statement gown with that bombshell blowout is everything! Bold red lips and piercing eyeliner this was probably one of her best makeup looks from Cannes. If you’re looking to change up your hair a little, add some colour. Warm reddish brown tones look best on Indian skin!
2015: Jazbaa
After a 5 year long sabbatical from Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai made a comeback with Jazbaa. She plays a young single mom in the movie and you can see how much she’s changed. Totally loving her makeup here if you want to look dolled up while working out… a little bit of eyeliner goes a long way.

2016: Cannes
Love it or hate it you can’t ignore it! Her makeup looks from Cannes 2016 were probably the most out of her comfort zone that she has ever stepped. That icy lavender lipstick and plum toned eye makeup definitely made a rocking statement.

2018
Looking at her, it’s amazing how she’s transformed ever so gracefully from being Miss World to Mrs Bachchan and now to a super mom! Over the years, she has reinvented every classic timeless beauty look and made it her own.
