7 Miss Universe Looks That Are Out Of This World

The search for Miss Universe 2023 recently kick-started in New Orleans with beauty queens from 86 countries putting their best foot forward to win the crown. Currently, pictures and videos from the pageant’s costume round are going viral on social media and some of them have left the entire world mesmerised. Ahead of the final coronation night on Saturday, January 14, let’s take a look at some of our favourite looks from the round!

Miss Universe Thailand

The internet is currently in awe of Anna Sueangam-iam’s stunning gown made of soda-draught can pull tabs! Anna’s humble upbringing inspired designer Arif Jehwang of the Thai company Manirat to create a masterpiece out of recyclable materials. But it’s the story behind it that has captured our hearts! Anna was raised by a garbage collector father and a street sweeper mother, and she was often dubbed “garbage beauty queen.” The diva looked mesmerising in the gown, which she accessorised with diamond drop earrings. What a marvel!

Miss Universe Jamaica

Toshami Calvin walked the ramp in a green dress that featured a feathered, asymmetrical skirt and a coordinating shoulder piece. The outfit was inspired by Queen Nanny, a Jamaican leader who fought against slavery. The knee-high sandals and white headpiece flawlessly tied the look together.

Miss Universe Nigeria

Hannah Iribhogbe, Miss Universe Nigeria, pulled off her traditional outfit so well that we’re completely captivated. She wore a bralette, shorts, and a neckpiece made entirely of Puka shells. Her skirt, on the other hand, was made of feathers and tied with satin around her waist. Each piece of clothing was designed to reflect African women’s pride, grace, and confidence.

Miss Universe Philippines

Miss Universe Philippines, Celeste Cortesi’s outfit reminded us of Wonder Woman! Her red and gold ensemble included a shimmering bra, matching gloves, and knee-high boots. She accessorised her look with a gold-star headpiece that matched the rings on her back. The outfit represented her mission of defending people in need, just like a superwoman.

Miss Universe Indonesia

Laksmi De Neefe Suardana of Indonesia wore a gleaming gold bodysuit with an oversized backpiece resembling a sailboat. A pale blue train extended from the outfit, completing the illusion of a boat at sea and representing Indonesia’s sailing history. Indeed, mesmerising!

Miss Universe India

Instagram

Divita Rai, Miss Universe India, represented our country in the most glamorous way. She walked the runway dressed as a “Sone Ki Chidiya” (Golden Bird), paying homage to India’s ancient name. Divita wore an embroidered top with gold detailing and a matching skirt. Her golden backpiece, which curved around her arms to form wings, was our favourite part of her outfit. She finished off the look with a matching headpiece.

Miss Universe Ukraine

Viktoriia Apanasenko wore a white gown with a gold bodice and a blue back piece with feathers designed to resemble wings that extended as she walked the runway. The Archangel Michael, who defeats evil, inspired her “Warrior of Light” costume. Viktoriia created the costume while watching the war in Ukraine, and it took four months to complete with limited supplies and candlelight. Absolutely stunning!
