Which is why denim is probably the most cherished clothing item in the world. So much so, that it’s travelled beyond clothing into accessories such as bags, jewellery, shoes et al. It’s hard not to depend and love anything so much, let alone a piece of clothing. You might not know it yet but you can’t live without it.
It’s 2018 and denim clothing means more than a pair of jeans, doesn’t it? The last 10 years have seen denim shorts, skirts and shirts making their mark. Today, it’s time to welcome a new generation of denim to the fashion world.
And as always we have our Bollywood stars to show us the way. When in doubt, think Bollywood. All you need is a minute of social media scrolling every day and you’re bound to find looks you can bet on. Which is exactly what we did and spotted cool new denim looks that have the essential Bollywood approval stamp on them. From our favourite begum, Bebo aka Kareena Kapoor Khan, to the film industry’s most coveted fashionista, Sonam Kapoor… here are all the women who have been rocking next-gen denim lately:
1. The Destroyed Denim Saree
Veere Di Wedding promotions took us on a unique sartorial journey. With Sonam wearing sneakers with a metallic maxi skirt to this shredded denim saree. We’re obsessed with all the new saree versions courtesy Bollywood celebs but this grunge avatar is our favourite by far.
2. The Visible Seam Jeans
There’s nothing we don’t want from this look. Priyanka Chopra was spotted strolling the streets of LA in zip-up patchwork jeans with visible seams paired with a boxy cropped white shirt. Hollywood looks good on PeeCee, doesn’t it?
3. The *Denim Jacket As A Crop Top*
She might be a mommy but she can still make us go ‘mama mia!’. Kareena Kapoor Khan’s denim on denim outfit caught our attention while she was promoting Veere Di Wedding. Bored of your denim jackets? Ask your masterji to chop your old denim jacket into half (just like Kareena’s) and voila!
4. The Panelled Denim Dress
Denim is essentially a street style fabric. Well, not anymore. Shamita Shetty puts a boho spin on it with eclectic embroidered panels on her denim dress and fringe detail suede sandals. This outfit could be our summer anthem TBH.
5. The Velvet Applique Jeans
From when she made her Bollywood debut to now, Taapsee Pannu’s wardrobe has evolved and how! The actress made a recent appearance in a casual navy t-shirt styled with interesting denim pants. This pair has velvet applique work down the sides along with chic thigh-high slits. Love!
6. The Denim Coat
Of course, Sonam is on the list twice. We couldn’t help it. Denim jackets are great but you’ll forget all about ‘em once you see this sophisticated denim overcoat by Mother of Pearl.
7. The Sequinned Jeans
Yes, these jeans barely show any denim but that’s the whole point! Denim is better when it’s sequinned, isn’t it? We love that the whole length of the pair is sparkly with only the waist of the jeans showing. Bold but worth it.
8. The Denim Bodycon Mini
Remember 70s style zip-up bodycon dresses in patent leather? They’re back and Janhvi Kapoor shows us why they had to be. We’d wear this dress everywhere, wouldn’t you?
