We wouldn’t be lying if we called Indian soap operas a montage of bizarre clips. From washing a laptop to ‘accidentally’ getting choked with a saree, there’s a lot of WTF moments we get to see in Indian TV series. However, if we were to pick something that Indian daily soaps almost always get wrong, it’s the wedding scenes.
Unlike weddings IRL that are rife with customs and full of celebration, Indian soap operas have their own unique take. Want to know the most weird ways characters on the desi shows get married? Well, read on.
Thapki Pyar Ki 2
The wedding scene from this show recently went viral and we can totally understand why. In one of the most hilarious episodes, Thapki, the protagonist of the show, is seen holding a pooja ki thali. A woman accidentally slips and pushes the thali that flies in the air for several time-defying moments. During this time, Thapki and her arch nemesis push each other out of the way, hoping for a ‘sindoor varsha‘, that will signify that they’ve been married off to their lover. Don’t believe that people could get married this way? Well, watch this clip:

Y.A.R.O Ka Tashan
This Indian TV show ran for a whole season and we’re surprised that it even lasted this long. The show revolves around the robot YARO, who not only looks very human-like but also can feel and express real emotions. Now, YARO is all set to tie the knot with his long-time GF, Sanjana. But, she is unaware that he is a machine (I mean, why would she ever assume he’s anything but human?). Anyways, after several weird twists and turns, including someone who tries to turn off YARO’s battery to stop the madness, the human-robot marriage finally takes place. BRB, we need a minute to process this.
Rishta Hum Likhenge Naya
Apart from deceiving your partner and fighting with your rival to get married, did you know you can get married accidentally, too? In this episode of RHLN, sindoor ‘unknowingly’ gets picked up by a man’s sleeve. It then falls on a woman’s forehead as he brushes her hair. And instead of calling it an accident, which it clearly was, the woman believes with every fibre in her body that she is now married to the man. TBH, what were the writers thinking while coming up with this scene?
Don’t you love it when you accidentally get married? 🤣

Devanshi
If there’s one Indian TV show that sets the benchmark for no-logic weddings, it’s Devanshi. Not only is there one episode where a man is married off to a dog because the stars are not favourable. But there’s also a scene where the show’s female lead, Devanshi marries a corpse who comes to the wedding dead and on a horse! But don’t worry, he’s not dead for too long. He comes back to life as Devanshi completes the pheres around the sacred fire with Vardhan’s dead body. Seriously guys, we’re not making it up.
Yehh Jadu Hai Jinn Ka
What can the love of your life do for you, in order to prove that they’re worthy of your hand in marriage? Well, on this show, the bridegroom literally asks her contenders to bring her ‘chand ka tukda’ (a piece of the moon). Not only do they try in the most unscientific ways to break a piece of the moon, but her true love actually manages to get her some of it. Well, that’s enough stupidity for today.
So, will Indian TV soaps never learn?
