If you were to choose and shop from just one brand for the rest of your life, which one would it be—Zara or H&M? To some it might look like an easy choice but it really is not. While Zara might win for dolling out multiple collections every season, H&M is loved for its sizing and fit. But we want to settle this debate this season (if not for once and for all). To do that, we just zeroed down on some seasonal trends and did an in-depth comparison between the two high street brands. Care for a game of fashion face-off? Read on:
Big Jacket Energy
Zara Price: INR 5590
H&M Price: INR 5499
Big blazers have retained their position as the numero uno capsule wardrobe staples in the past couple of years. And while there was a time when nothing could come even close to Zara jackets, H&M is surely trying to catch on. Take, for instance, these double-breasted white jackets offered by both brands. We love the tailoring of Zara’s jacket, but the H&M offering has a more laidback, vogue feel. However, if we were to choose between tailoring and trend, it will always be the former.
Our Choice: Zara
Basic Ribbed Bodycon
Zara Price: INR 1590
H&M Price: INR 1499
Ribbed bodycon dresses are going big right now. They are flattering, practical, and suave and both Zara and H&M have a variety of options to choose from. However, we found H&M to have expansive collection and the colours are to die for.
Our Choice: H&M
White Jeans
Zara Price: INR 2890
H&M Price: INR 1799
Here’s the truth—Zara pants can eat H&M pants for breakfast! And even when they might cost more than H&M offerings, we will always have a preference for Zara’s fit and styles.
Our Choice: Zara
Draped Skirts
Zara Price: INR 2990
H&M Price: INR 2299
Draping has been slowly inching its way to the top of fashion charts for a few seasons now and is finally having its moment in the sun. Chic skirts are our pick for the trend and we have been loving the solid, fluid styles that Zara just rolled out. H&M also has some printed picks at the moment but guess we’ll stay with the solids for this one.
Our Choice: Zara
Elaborate White Dress
Zara Price: INR 5990
H&M Price: INR 3999
Elaborate white dresses with delicate embroideries and crisp fabrics are our favourite trend this season. They are classy, versatile, and oh-so-elegant. Zara’s latest collection is proof that the brand agrees with us. From voluminous polka dot midis to long, embroidered shirt dresses, you’ll find it all. H&M has some fun offerings too but Zara has won this in terms of both volume and cuts.
Our Choice: Zara
Summery Maxis
Zara Price: INR 4990
H&M Price: INR 1999
If all-white is not your aesthetic, then flirty, summer maxis will be the perfect pick for you this season. Zara has launched some fun strappy numbers but H&M has been consistently winning in the category with their choice of cuts and colours.
Our Choice: H&M
Y2K Metallic
Zara Price: INR 4990
H&M Price: INR 3990
Y2K aesthetics continue to reign the fashion charts this season as well and naturally, we have been seeing a lot of metallic gowns and separates lately. But looks like Zara is yet to catch up in the category. They have a few metallic fits but they are certainly not to everyone’s taste and quite pricey as well. H&M, on the other hand, has aced the aesthetic, has some gorgeous sequined dresses on the racks, and even has a fringed metallic dress that screams peak Y2K fashion.
Our Choice: H&M
Co-ord Sets
Zara Price: INR 5880
H&M Price: INR 2118
No fashion girl will be able to make it through this season sans some colour-pop co-ord sets in their kitty and Zara has the perfect offerings. H&M has limited choices here and most of them are basic.
Our Choice: Zara
School Gingham
Zara Price: INR 2890
H&M Price: INR 1499
School gingham is a style that we have been eyeing for a couple of months now. There is a certain nostalgia attached here and H&M has done a fabulous job in tapping the sentiment. That said, H&M ginghams have always been better than that of Zara’s. There, we said it!
Our Choice: H&M
Dramatic Details
Zara Price: INR 4990
H&M Price: INR 3999
With sequins and fringes as reigning trends, this is obviously the season of big drama and consequently, dresses with elaborate, OTT details are in vogue at the moment. Zara has gone all out with big bows and exaggerated sleeves here. H&M, however, has just a handful of offerings.
Our Choice: Zara
Final Verdict: Zara – 6 H&M – 4
Phew, that was a close one!
