You Tell ‘Em Girl! Harnaaz Kaur Talks About Being Fat-Shamed & Every Women Needs To Hear Her Out
Last year India’s Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu bagged the Miss Universe 2021 crown and made us all so proud. While Harnaaz is an inspiration for most of us, there is a certain section on social media that has been trying to pull her down. Recently, the diva made her way to the prestigious FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week as she turned showstopper for designer duo Shivan & Narresh.
As soon as pictures of Harnaaz hit the ‘Gram, some keyboard warriors started bashing her for alleged weight gain. Instead of brushing off the issue, the diva opened up on online social media trolling and how she is handling it.
During a press conference, Harnaaz shared, “I’m one of those individuals who was first bullied that ‘she’s too skinny’ and now they bully me saying ‘she’s fat’. Nobody knows about my Celiac disease. That I can’t eat wheat flour and many other things. That’s the stigma in our minds. We have been always told to think twice before seeing a person, but we have this habit of seeing first then thinking about it.”
Harnaaz also spoke about the importance of the body positivity movement on social media and shared, “I’m someone who believes in body positivity and one of the Miss Universes for the very first time is going through that. On the platform of Miss Universe, we talk about women empowerment, womanhood, and body positivity. And if I am going through that I know there are a lot of people who are trolling me and it’s okay because that’s their mindset, their stigmas, but there are a lot of other individuals who are trolled every day irrespective of their Miss Universe or not. I’m empowering them by making them feel that if I feel gorgeous, you are beautiful too”
NGL, we are incredibly happy to see Harnaaz using her position as Miss Universe to share the message of love and body positivity. It can be tough to celebrate your authentic self in the world of airbrushed images and edited posts, but it is incredible to see women like Harnaaz setting an example for us all. Every woman deserves to be respected and celebrated without being a certain size or body type!
