Teenage Dirtbag Makeup Looks That Will Help You Ace That Y2K Aesthetic In 2023

Does your ‘new year, new me’ involve a makeover too by any chance? More like a nostalgic one? Millennial babies are reliving their teenage years as Y2K trends are back and bangin’. We owe much to Gen Z and Gen X for these noughties trends seeing a resurgence too. The new gen has fallen in love with the idealistic look of rebels from the 00s and we don’t blame them. It was a time when makeup was used to express your personality and while it was chaotic, it was also edgy and cool. Smokey eye makeup was huge in the decade as it really portrayed lived-in makeup and a rebellious attitude. Berry, bloody, and frosted lips were also the coveted aesthetic of the 00s that are back, courtesy the most popular celebs. If you’re interested in recreating the Y2K rebel or shall we call it the “Teenage Dirtbag aesthetic”, here are a few striking makeup looks to take a cue from.

8 Makeup Looks To Recreate That Teenage Dirtbag Aesthetic

Bloody Berry

If you lack eyeliner skills, a bold lip will do you justice. Line your lips with the darkest lip liner and then blend a dark-toned berry red on your lips while leaving the centre bare. Swipe on a nude lipstick in the centre and you’re set to slay.

Grunge Icon

This would be considered the au naturel makeup look of the 2000s. Wear brown eyeshadow on your lids and apply a thin line of kajal on your lash lines. Softly smudge the kajal and finish with mascara. Keep your skin matte, use a brown or red blush, and opt for a toasted brown lipstick in either a glossy or matte finish.

Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked

Gothic makeup was huge in the 2000s era and this fabulous red eyeshadow look is both glamorous and goth at the same time. Go bold with the red eyeshadow on your lids and lower lash lines, you can even add some glitter if you desire. Apply a sharp winged liner as a finishing touch. It’s a very ‘Jennifer’s Body’ kinda look.

Rebel Glamm

Blue hues were coveted in the makeup scene back then and rebellious teens wore ’em with a side of smokey black kohl. Smear a black kohl all over your lids to form a base and then dab on a dark blue shimmer eyeshadow. Define your lash lines with smokey kohl and mascara. For the lips, outline them with a dark lip liner and swipe on a nude gloss.

Big Rockstars

The boldest smokey eyes loaded with glitter just take the cake. Get messy with black cream eyeshadow by smearing it all over your lids. Top it off with black glitter and apply smokey eyeliner. Load up on mascara too. Finally, take a Q-tip dipped in micellar water and clean up the edges of your eye makeup to give them a winged shape.

Dark Sirens

Focus on your lower lash lines to really make an impact with your smokey eyeliner. Make the kajal application on the lower lash lines thicker as compared to the upper lash lines. Extend the liner into wings at the outer corners.

Cold Blooded

Pale skin with a deep wine red lipstick in a matte finish is the ultimate low-effort look you can cop from the noughties. You can add a light pink eyeshadow on your lids or a gloss to make it look glam.

Teenage Daydream

Every makeup enthusiast has worn this look in the decade because it is just that stunning. Apply skinny liner on your lash lines and wear terracotta hues on your lids and cheeks. Keep your lips nude and moisturised with a frosty lip balm.
