Every time a woman talks about being angry, someone lets out a long sigh. People think women are always frustrated with no good reason. It’s only partly true – because yes we’re always frustrated and angry, but it’s not without reason. We grow up in a society that not only treats us as inferiors but also hates us for saying that it’s inferior. It’s not just that, though. Every day, women are put in situations which would leave anyone irked.
It starts at home, where women are involved in most of the physical and emotional labour, but are never acknowledged for it – let alone being treated as equals to men. At workplace, we have to fight harder for the things that men are just assigned – which goes for life in general, as well. People never think we’re capable, so we work harder, and men reap the rewards.
Then there’s the fact that people still find the audacity to say that being around women is tough. Imagine having to walk back home with the constant fear that someone is following you; so you develop a peripheral vision out of paranoia. Of course, we’re angry – most of our lives are spent struggling each day without that struggle being acknowledged.
What’s worse is that people think we’re overreacting all the time – when, in fact, the truth is that people are hypocritical when it comes to their actions around women. Here’s what I mean:
Try and be a woman for a day, you’ll know. Or else, let us be – that’s the least you can do.
