When Kareena Kapoor Broke Her Silence On Karisma & Abhishek’s Broken Engagement

Remember when Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor were all set to become the next power couple of Bollywood? The two had it all going for them right from a dreamy engagement announcement to the exciting shaadi planning. But it all came to an abrupt end and the two called off their relationship. It sent shock waves across Bollywood.

Abhishek and Karisma didn’t speak about the reason for their broken engagement. But gossip mills claimed it was Karisma’s mother Babita who drove a wedge in their relationship. However, it was all rumours and speculations. Following the announcement of Abhishek and Karisma’s broken engagement, Kareena Kapoor also kept her distance from the Bachchan family.

In an interview with a Bollywood magazine in March 2002, Bebo opened up on her equation with Junior B. The Laal Singh Chaddha star said, “In my life, there’s still room for Abhishek Bachchan, I just wish there is a little bit of room still left in his heart for me.”

Kareena and Abhishek shared a special bond as they made their film debut with Refugee in 2000. While there were ups and downs in their friendship, they worked together once again in the 2003 film Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon. 

In 2009, Kareena once again spoke about her bond with Abhishek in an interview. The actress said, “I have always maintained that Abhishek is the first actor with whom I gave my first shot. To me, he holds a very special place in my heart that no actor and no person can ever take. When I look at him, I look at him with pride, joy and with happiness. It’s sad things went sour.”

It is evident that Kareena still cherishes the bond she once shared with Abhishek. Won’t it be a treat to see them together in a film again?
