It has been a year since I’ve been working as a fashion writer at POPxo and yesterday was the first time I attended a fashion show. Yeah, that surprised my new boss too! Have you seen Priyanka Chopra’s Fashion? Oh, the way movies play with your head.
I’m not saying it’s all glam and goals. But if you go for a fashion show hoping for a wardrobe malfunction or someone tripping and falling on the ramp, yeah, that’s not going to happen either. There are a lot of ‘Expectation vs Reality’ jokes churning in my head right now!
I attended the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2018 and it was a pretty good event for a first timer, I must say. I entered a space full of colours, trends and oh-so-tall people. And I loved every bit of it. Here are my top three moments from the fashion show that anyone would relate to:
3. Street style inspiration all around
I’m always on a lookout for fresh fashion inspiration around me, not because it’s my job but for the pure love of it. Where do you think our exclusive ‘POPxo Recommendations’ comes from? I got a whole new perspective on what my 2018 is going to be like from the streets and it’s stylish AF. How I can pair that shirt in my closet I always refrain from wearing, how floaters can be made cool again, why I should buy more socks – I got a way to fix all my fashion woes.
2. Next season’s collections by the biggies – Firsthand!
So this is how fashion shows work. A bunch of designers showcase their collection for the upcoming season. For example, if the fashion show is happening in summer, the collections would be for autumn/winter. Likewise if it’s happening in winter, the collections would be for spring/summer. And that’s something even Google can’t help me with. I know what’s coming next and that makes me feel good to be a part of the industry. Cool, right?
1. When I saw Kartik Aryan!!
Sitting in a hall full of art and creativity, with a themed display and music surrounding you, and the beautiful models walking down the ramp doesn’t just make you think, “Well, I could walk like that!” but also makes you wonder who the showstopper will be (showstoppers are usually not revealed to the audience until you ultimately see them.) And on my first day, I got to see three – Bipasha Basu, Rhea Chakraborty and Kartik (effing)Aryan! Man, I had my fangirl moment. Nothing tops that for me.
Pros:
- All the above
Cons:
- Fashion shows are very tiring (ask my feet!)
How would I rate my experience?
4/5
Would I go again?
Absolutely! But just a friendly note to self – don’t wear heels, you idiot!
