Periods are no less than a five-day-long nightmare that comes with various sub-nightmares A.K.A cramps, mood swings, pain, tenderness and what not. And while it’s a natural process to get your period, you wouldn’t mind bringing down the pain level by a few notches, would you? So, here are a few ways to make your period less painful.
1. Herbal tea works wonders!
Chamomile tea, raspberry leaf tea and other kinds of herbal teas help relieve pain and cramps significantly. These are therapeutic and may be mildly sedative, helping you relax. So, keep calm and drink tea.
2. Essential oils all the way.
Massaging your lower abdomen with essential oils goes a long way in alleviating pain. Use Oils such as lavender, clary sage and marjoram to give relief to your cramping abdomen area. Just thinking about it is sooo comforting, no?
3. Heating pad is bae!
Some warmth to your aching abdomen is sure to relieve pain. So snuggle up in your blanket (or not, if it’s summer) along with a heating pad or a hot water bottle. Ah! The relief!
4. A bit of an easy breezy workout.
Working out releases endorphins in the body which are known to decrease and cure pain. This also helps regulate proper blood flow through the reproductive organs. So, as much as you may want to keep lying down all day long, go out and take a walk. You will feel so much better!
5. Some dark chocolate? Yes please!
Oh yum! Dark chocolate (70% cocoa) is rich in magnesium which is instrumental in relieving cramps. It also encourages the body to release endorphins which again help with the pain. Not that we needed another reason to eat chocolate, eh?
6. Ooooo… Orgasms!
Ahem. Yup! Having an orgasm during that time of the month helps with the pain A.K.A pleasure kills pain. Ask your boyfriend if he is up for it or fly solo, ladies. *Wink*
7. Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate!
We just cannot stress enough on how important it is to stay hydrated. Increasing the intake of water decreases your chances of water retention which is another cause of cramps. Drink up, ladies.
8. Vodka and cranberry juice to help you sail through
Are you jumping up and down with joy, now? In addition to being awesome, this combination can also be a fun pain reliever during that time of the month. So, the next time your cramps are killing you, head to a bar.
9. Yoga se hoga!
Yoga has the cure for so many things and period pain is one of them too! Yogasanas like dolphin pose, bridge pose and bow pose help in relieving period pains. Do these in slow but steady movements, and you will soon find your pain melting away.
10. Pop a safe painkiller.
But never ever without consulting your gynae. If nothing else works, you can always pop a pill but be sure you aren’t just going by the chemist’s prescription or by popular peer recommendation.
11. Curl up and snore away!
Sleep is the cure to everything! And period pain is no exception. Sleeping helps your body relax, thus helping with the pain.
