Everything To Know About The Virat And Anushka Wedding: Venue, Celebrations & More
Last night, news broke the internet – and millions of single hearts – that ace Indian cricketer, Virat Kohli and Bollywood actor, Anushka Sharma had tied the knot in a beautiful Punjabi wedding held at a luxury resort in Tuscany, Italy.
Virushka is officially the real deal! And everyone in the country wants to know two things:
- How the hell did our favourite ‘It’ couple manage to keep the entire affair under wraps?
- What went down inside what can only be touted as the biggest wedding of the year?
And while we can’t really answer the former question, we’re going to try and answer all your burning questions on what went on inside Virushka’s lavish and mesmerising destination wedding, in Tuscany!
Anushka and Virat released a joint statement post their wedding.
“Today we have promised each other to be bound in love forever. We are truly blessed to share this wonderful news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans and well wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey.”
The couple’s media representatives further stated that “Ms. Anushka Sharma and Mr. Virat Kohli got married at a private ceremony in Italy.” The wedding was attended by close family and a few friends as they wished their wedding to be a very private affair. The wedding was performed as per Hindu rituals.

The couple looked happy and in love at the mehndi ceremony where Virat and Anushka posed for pictures as they got henna applied on their hands.
In a video released on the internet, of the couple’s engagement, you can see both Virat and Anushka exchange rings as they get intensely emotional, while Ed Sheeran’s serendipitous ‘Thinking Out Loud’ plays on in the background.
Top fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee has designed the wedding ensemble for both the bride and the groom. In a message sent out to the media, the designer, Sabyasachi, wrote…
“We designed the clothes for both bride and groom for all the functions. From engagement to mehendi and sangeet, for the wedding and post-wedding dinner, and heritage jewellery from the recently-launched Sabyasachi label. It was wonderful to work with the couple. From the House of Sabyasachi, we wish Anushka and Virat a very happy married life.”

The wedding was held at a resort, Borgo Finocchieto in Buonconvento town in the Province of Siena in Italy.
This is the same property where the Obamas are said to have holidayed in the past, and is said to be one of the most expensive properties in the world. The estate is 800 years old and has been restored to accommodate 44 guests in 22 bedrooms.
Just 1 week’s stay at the property alone costs a whopping 1cr! It even ranked second on Forbes’ list of expensive holiday destinations in the world.
Virat’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma was at the wedding, along with his wife to bless the couple.
Virat and Anushka will now start inviting all industry friends and colleagues for the celebrations that are set to happen in Mumbai.
The couple will be hosting a reception in New Delhi for their relatives on 21st December which will be followed by a reception for industry friends and cricketers in Mumbai on 26th December.
Below is a formal invitation for the same.
The newly wed couple will travel to South Africa where Virat will start prepping for the upcoming series and Anushka will spend New Year’s Eve with him and return in the first week of January to begin the next schedule of Anand L Rai’s film with Shah Rukh Khan in Mumbai. She will also start prepping for Sui Dhaaga as the shooting for the same starts in February 2018 with Varun Dhawan. Anushka will also be busy with the marketing and promotions of Pari which is releasing on 9th February.
Virat, on the other hand, will be playing the series in South Africa for 2 months which includes three Tests, six One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.
Post their wedding the newly wed couple will be shifting to their new residence in Worli, Mumbai in December once they return from Delhi.
Their spokesperson said, “We are extremely grateful to the media for their support and understanding in making this special occasion a memorable one and thank them for their continued love and support.”
We cannot wait to see the married couple return as newly weds. Plus, there’s a lot left for us to anticipate from the receptions to be held later this month. We’re genuinely happy for Virat and Anushka who have been together since 2013. They met during an ad shoot for a prominent hair care brand. Kohli, then, had already set a strong foothold for himself in the world of Indian cricket and Anushka had also risen to fame with her performance in teh Yash Raj produced, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.
Ever since the two began to be spotted together, on and off and while they didn’t do much to confirm the fact that they were dating, they didn’t deny any rumours, either. Remember how Karan Johar tried to pry it out of Anushka on Koffee With Karan?
Anushka continued to be a presence in Virat’s life – both, public and private. She was spotted at all his major matches, in and out of the country.
During the India versus Sri Lanka ODI in November 2014, Virat silently declared his love with a flying kiss to Anushka from the stadium grounds and the world went crazy!
Virat and Anushka briefly broke up in between but they were soon spotted back together, stronger than ever before. They began to make more candid appearances – attending Yuvraj-Hazel’s wedding together and soon after, Zaheer and Sagarika’s wedding too.
Before it all, they began to fuel rumours of marriage when they appeared together in a campaign for Manyavar where they were seen taking their wedding vows. But, if only we had known that the two were secretly planning their dream destination wedding, all along!
Here’s the first images of Anushka with her parents at the wedding!
We even have an image of Anushka before her wedding and she looks radiant and beautiful in white!
Anushka’s manager, Ritika Nagpal, who was one of the guests at the couple’s wedding shared a few images of the couple on their wedding day on Twitter.
One included a video of the blushing bride making her entrance towards the mandap…
