Varun Dhawan Breaks Silence On Bawaal Controversy For The First Time

Bollywood lovers may have never thought of World War 2 and a rom-com together?’ But the Bawaal makers did and got trolled! Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s film has been slammed for using the darkest chapter in European history as a part of a love story.

Finally, in an interview, Varun broke the silence on the criticism Bawaal is facing. The actor said, “Some people got trigged or sensitive about this. But I don’t understand where that sensitivity or trigger goes when they watch, suppose an English film, I’m saying for example. They’re allowed to do everything there, they’re allowed to take leaps and they’re allowed to show things in a certain way, but you’ll find that correct.

It looks like Varun was taking a dig at Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s film that was also based on World War 2. The film invited the wrath of social media over a scene in the film where a woman recites a verse from the Bhagavad Gita while having sex.

The actor added, “I know people have got very triggered after watching a small scene in a brilliant film, recently released. It’s a scene that’s important to our culture and our country. But that’s okay for you. You don’t feel they should be more sensitive to you? So where does your criticism go then?

IMO, two wrongs don’t make a right. The cultural difference doesn’t make it okay for a film like Bawaal to make light of a sensitive subject.

ICYMI, Bawaal has drawn parallels between the events of one of the most horrific genocides in the world and a love story. However, a particular scene managed to ruffle the most feathers. When Janhvi and Varun go to Auschwitz (Nazi concentration camp), a survivor (an actor) tearfully tells them that “every relationship” goes through its own Auschwitz. Scroll down to check out Bawaal trailer:

While Varun doesn’t agree with the criticism of Bawaal, his counterargument may not be strong enough to convince the audience.
