The ‘Undershadow’ Is Exactly What The Party Gals Need This Season

For all of my daydreamers that aren’t endowed with an expert-level blending skill set, you can quit attempting to recreate the smokey-eye now. Offer your lids some respite from all the gnawing, rubbing and violation because there’s a trend on the block that’s about to assuage your ego (and novice-like blending) gloriously. Enter the undershadow: the shy step-sister of the under-eye makeup trend. Here’s all you need to know about the trend, and why it’s such a game-changer for amateurs like us.

This Trend Is Going To Make Blending Feel Like Child’s Play

The undershadow is much like under-eye makeup — only more reserved in that it doesn’t drip down under the eyes as much. Most under-eye trends involve dousing the area a little above the cheeks in splashes of colour — but this technique concentrates all of the pigment right under the waterline. If you’re not equipped with a stellar blending skill set, you’re probably going to ace this trend.

Here’s What You Need To Do

Prep your under-eyes with some primer before starting. You want a crease-free canvas on priority. Dab a lightweight, buttery-smooth concealer under the eyes in the shape of a triangle before blending the product in with your fingers. Packing too much product right under the eyes can result in a blotchy, made-up finish.

Set the eyes with a setting/translucent powder to prevent the concealer from moving post makeup. Do create a soft cat-eye on the lid to balance the play of colour under the eyes. If you’re feeling experimental, colour your lids a little. Notice how this MUA has drowned the lids in gold before going in with eyeliner. Pro-tip? You can extend the cat-eye to the inner-corners to play into the sultriness of the look too. Vary the drama depending on your aesthetic: subtle, razor-thin wings or graphic, thicker-than-ever wings.

The next step involves finding the brightest pop of colour in your palette, and drenching a thin, fine-tipped brush in the pot. Now — pat it along the under-eye in a line from start to end. Ensure you’re not going too far under the under-eye. The point is to concentrate the pigment right under the eyes to achieve a razor-thin, eyeliner-like finish. And you’re done!
