The Trailer For Alia Bhatt’s Sadak 2 Just Dropped & It Promises A Nail-Biting Thriller

The first trailer of Sadak 2 is out, and the Twitterverse can’t stop talking about it. This comes two days after the makers of the film dropped the character posters of Sanjay Dutt, Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur. The upcoming thriller, which has been in the eye of the storm amidst the debates on nepotism, is set to release on Disney + Hotstar on August 28. And on Monday (August 10), the hashtag #UninstallHotstar trended on Twitter as many netizens urged everyone to boycott the film helmed by the Bhatt family.

Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, the trailer of the sequel to 1991 film Sadak starts with a clip of the original film showing Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt, before cutting to the new footage. The trailer shows how Sanjay Dutt’s character, Ravi, has lost all reason to live after the death of his beloved Pooja. His dialogue “Jisne meri zindagi ko zindagi di, vo toh kab ki gayi! Ab kiske lie jiyu (The one who taught me how to live is long gone. Who should I live for now?)” gives us chills as news broke yesterday about the actor’s lung cancer diagnosis.

The next scene cuts to Alia, who plays the role of Arya in the film, looking simple yet chic in a grey v-neck t-shirt, jeans and a black jacket. She seems to be on a journey of revenge, and can be seen setting an effigy of a ‘fake guru’ on fire. Sanjay Dutt is tasked with taking Alia to Kailash Mountain as Pooja had taken the booking before she died. Even though he is a bit reluctant at first, Alia manages to convince him to take her on the road trip.

Then enters Aditya Roy Kapur aka Vishal, Arya’s boyfriend. He is apparently being released from the prison while Alia goes to pick him up. This definitely piqued our curiosity as there’s no mention about why he was in prison, to begin with. What it murder? Petty theft? Espionage? Guess we’ll find out.

Makarand Deshpande also makes a fearsome appearance as the godman Alia is trying to expose. TBH, he is looking quite convincing as the ‘fake guru’ and we’re convinced he’s the villain of the film. The trailer also takes us through glimpses of other characters in the film, including Gulshan Grover, Jisshu Sengupta and Priyanka Bose.

But the plot really thickens when Sanjay begins to protect Alia as she asks, “Ravi ji aap kyun kar rahe hai mere liye ye sab. Me toh sirf ek passenger hun (Why are you doing all this for me. I’m just a passenger)”. Even though it’s not clear as to why Sanjay Dutt is protecting her, but our guess is that it has something to do with Pooja Bhatt.

The trailer ends with Sanjay threatening to kill someone, and looks absolutely convincing while doing so. Well, we must say that the trailer looks like an interesting, nail-biting revenge thriller, and now we’re super excited for the movie’s release.

While the trailer of the film was set to release on Tuesday (August 11), it was apparently delayed by a day owing to Sanjay Dutt’s shocking cancer diagnosis yesterday. Reports claim that the actor will be leaving for the US for treatment soon.

TBH, boycotting films of star kids will not really help the deep-rooted problem of nepotism in the industry. Instead of focussing on how to hate actors belonging to Bollywood families, perhaps viewers can be honest about the kind of films they’ve been watching over the years. All this hate really needs to stop!

Meanwhile, what do you think about the trailer?
