Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starrer Barbie has been making waves in the entertainment industry. Call it their exceptional marketing or the emotional bond we’ve all had with Barbie for ages, the movie broke box office records within a few days of its release. However, it looks like it failed to make a mark on some.
TV actress Juhi Parmar recently took to her social media to slam the makers and called them out for using ‘inappropriate language and sexual connotations’ in the movie. She shared a note on the ‘Gram revealing how Greta Gerwig’s Barbie ruined the perfect image of her favourite childhood character. She also said that she walked out of the movie theater with her 10-year-old daughter within the first 10 minutes.
The Kumkum Bhagya actress shed light on how Barbie, which is being promoted and screened by plenty of toy brands is indeed a PG-13 movie (inappropriate for children below 13). She also expressed her disappointment about how the makers didn’t give a single heads up about the kind of language used in the film. Juhi wrote, “A lot of my own audience is not going to be happy with what I share today, some of you may send me a lot of angst but I share this note as a concerned parent to Barbie! And for the other parents out there, don’t make the mistake I did and please do check before you take your child for the film, that choice is yours!” Take a look at her note:
While the internet has been trolling Juhi for slamming the movie of the hour, we understand her concerns as a parent. First things first, Barbie isn’t a children’s film and def contains some inappropriate content. However, renowned toy brand like Hamleys screening the movie along with Mattel Inc. might have sent a wrong message. Many parents like Juhi may have thought that the language and content was kids-appropriate.
