The much-anticipated Greta Gerwig’s directorial Barbie is all the internet can talk about RN. And Barbiecore has officially hit Bollywood actresses and influencers as well. While we’re rooting and living for all the desi Barbies out there, did you know an actual Barbie doll was modelled after a Bollywood actress? No it’s not Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, or Kareena Kapoor! Scroll down to know who she is:
The One & Only!
Back in 2009, Bollywood’s one and only fashionista, Katrina Kaif turned showstopper for the ‘Barbie All Doll’d Up’ show at the Lakme Fashion Week. Paying tribute to Barbie’s 50th birthday, the Bang Bang actress walked the ramp channelling her doll avatar. She wore a bright-coloured brocade and ruffles skirt curated by the designer, Nishka Lulla.
On the same day, the toy-making company, Mattel honoured Katrina by making a doll modelled after her. The doll was dressed in the same attire that Katrina walked the ramp in, and was named ‘Katrina Kaif Barbie Doll’. This made the Welcome actress the first Indian to have a real Barbie doll made after her. Here, take a look at the gorgeous pictures:
Two years down the line, Katrina launched another Barbie doll made after her. Thanking the makers for the honour, she said, “I am thrilled and excited at having the ‘I Can Be a Movie Star’ Barbie Doll inspired by me. It is almost unbelievable, that a doll that I grew up playing with is one day going to take after me, seem like me. Barbie is not just another Doll; she is one of the most popular characters in the world who is a fashionista and has a flourishing career. It is an absolute honour to be associated with Barbie.” Take a look:
Can someone please cast Kat in a desi version of Barbie, already? What if Vicky plays ‘Ken’ in it? The Bollywood buff in me has started imagining the entire cast!
