Then VS Now: Tum Bin Just Completed 18 Years & This Is What The Cast Is Up To Now!

Remember Tum Bin…? The 2001 romantic film just completed 18 years and we, 90s kids, are still aren’t over how precious this movie was! From its soulful music to the gorgeous scenery, it was a refreshing change from over-the-top storylines Bollywood had had enough of. Although a remake of this movie was released in 2016, it failed to live up to the hype of the original. 

The #OG Tum Bin, starring Priyanshu Chatterjee, Sandali Sinha, Himanshu Malik and Raqesh Vashisth, defined love for an entire generation. Can you believe that it has almost been two decades since we first heard Koi Fariyaad? After an impressive debut, most of the cast has since fizzled away from the spotlight and hasn’t been spotted on the screen in a while.

We decided to find out what the cast of Tum Bin… is doing now!

Priyanshu Chatterjee as Shekhar Malhotra

A supermodel at the time, Priyanshu made his Bollywood debut with Tum Bin… and then went on to do some popular films in Bengali cinema. The actor was last seen in Ajay Devgan’s 2017 film, Baadshaho, playing the role of a politician. With over 36 films to his name, Priyanshu has had the most successful Bollywood career out of the leads. 

Sandali Sinha as Pia Shekhar Malhotra

Sandali made her debut in the industry with the famous music video of Sonu Nigam’s song, Deewane Hoke. Coincidently, this music video also starred her Tum Bin co-star Himanshu Malik, and was directed by Anubhav Sinha. Anubhav then decided to cast both the actors the leads in his Bollywood directorial debut, Tum Bin. Since then, Sandali went on to act in films like Pinjar and Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo, but apart from her special appearance in Tum Bin 2, she hasn’t been a part of the industry in over 12 years. In 2005, she tied the knot with a businessman Kiran Salaskar with whom she has three adorable children. Sandali now runs a successful chain of bakeries in Mumbai called Country Of Origin.

Himanshu Malik as Abhigyan

Himanshu, who was a famous model in the 90s, made his Bollywood debut with Kama Sutra: A Tale Of Love in 1996 and made an appearance in Ram Gopal Verma’s Jungle in 2000, post which he did Tum Bin… In 2012, the actor turned into a director and writer, and his first 45-minute short film, Q.E.D- Quod Erat Demonstradum won a great deal of appreciation in the indie film circuit. He now runs Malik.mov Films Pvt Ltd, a production house that makes music videos and short films for some of the most popular brands in India. He was last seen in Chitrakut, a film about five people and their search for love, which was directed and written by him. 

Raqesh Vashisth as Amar Shah

Raqesh Vashisth was a successful model before he made his Bollywood debut with Tum Bin, following which he did a string of Hindi films and then switched to Marathi cinema. However, now the actor is famous for playing the lead in several successful Hindi TV shows like Tu Aashiqui, Ishq Mein Marjawan, Qubool Hai, Seven and Saat Phere – Saloni Ka Safar. 

Amrita Prakash as Amar’s Sister Milli Shah

Amrita played the role of the young lovable sister in the film at the age of 14 and has since been seen in various Bollywood and Malayalam movies, including Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi and Vivah. But her most iconic roles have been on the small screen, where she has gained a strong fan following with shows like Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, Mahakali, Akbar Birbal and various roles in Savdhaan India. 

Vikram Gokhale as Amar’s Father Girdhari Shah

This veteran actor has been known for his work in Marathi cinema and theatre, and even made his directorial debut with the Marathi film, Aaghaat in 2010. In 2011, he was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his Acting in Theatre and even won the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2013 for his Marathi film, Anumati. This 78-year-old actor was also seen in Aiyaary, Firangi and Bang Bang!

Manoj Pahwa as Inspector D’Mello

Although Manoj Pahwa’s role in the movie was a short one, in the same year, he gained immense popularity for playing Bhatia ji in the TV show, Office Office. Known for his impeccable comic timing, Manoj has been a part of various successful movies like Dabangg 2, Jolly LLB, Ready, Dil Dhadakne Do and Judwaa 2. He was last seen playing the role of Coach Mahipal in Student of the Year 2 and Bhramadatt in Article 15.

Rajendra Gupta as Iftekhar

One of the most seasoned actors in the film, Rajendra played the role of Iftekhar, Pia’s aunt Ayesha’s fiance. In the same year, one of the most successful movies of his career, Lagaan was nominated for the Oscars, in which he played the role of the village head. The actor was also seen in movies like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Tanu Weds Manu Returns and PM Narendra Modi. He also played significant roles in famous Hindi TV shows like Balika Vadhu and Chidiya Ghar. 

Navneet Nishan as Ayesha

Navneet played the role of the fun-loving aunt in the film and has since acted in many more successful Hindi and Punjabi films. With a career spanning over 31 years, she was last seen in the movie Qarib Qarib Singlle, playing the role of Mrs Saluja. 

Rajesh Khera as Shekar’s friend Bosco

Famous for his roles in movies like Josh, Tango Charlie, Taal and Om Jai Jagadish, Rajesh had had quite a colourful career over the years. He has made a mark in Indian television by appearing in shows like C.I.D, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin and Left Right Left. Rajesh was also a part of the successful Netflix original series, Sense8. The actor was last seen playing the role of Takshaka in the Hindi TV show, Naagarjuna – Ek Yoddha.
