5 TedX Episodes To Watch If You Love Skincare

I love TedX Talks, and I love skincare. I’m always looking to learn more things – hacks, tips, tricks, and the works and reels can only do so much.

So if you, like me, also like to collect knowledge about the skincare world, here are a few recommendations for to watch!

5 Skin Myths To Stop Believing Now

In this episode, Dr. Jen Gunter, a Canadian-American gynaecologist, and NY Times columnist covering women’s health, debunks 5 common myths surrounding skincare. In this poignant video, she addresses topics like sunscreen application, cancer, and even chocolate consumption—a must-watch to learn a little extra about the capabilities of your skin in under 5 minutes.

The Chemistry Behind Cosmetics: A Critical Look at Clean Beauty

The term ‘clean beauty’ has been thrown around carelessly, especially over the past few decades. In this TedX Talk, Helena Garrod, a student of chemistry, talks about the misconceptions surrounding the clean beauty industry. Covering topics such as safety, sustainability, and natural beauty, she highlights how ‘clean beauty’ is nothing more than a promotional catchphrase.

How I Define Beauty

Most popularly known for her stint on America’s Next Top Model, Winnie Harlow’s TedX talk revolves around her interpretation of beauty. Using her own personal experience with vitiligo, she highlights the power of societal standards of beauty and how she came to reject those in an attempt to define beauty on her own terms.

The Changing Paradigms Of Skincare In India

The skincare mindset amongst today’s youth in India is pretty polarised if you think about it. While the disdain for darker skin tones has reduced, there are still a lot of people who think of skin colour as determinative of an individual’s worth.

In this TEDx Talk, Dr. Jaishree Sharad highlights some very basic skin conditions and starts a discourse on the changing perception of skin colour and the gender stereotypes that contribute to it.

What Constitutes Real Beauty?

Taking off her makeup on stage before the talk starts, Lou Northcote asks the audience if they think she is ‘less professional’ now that she is makeup-free? Starting her modelling career at the young age of 10, her journey is full of the tragedies that usually come with a successful career in the industry. After battling overnight acne, Lou Northcote has now successfully cultivated a global community of like-minded individuals.

I’m lining all these up for my 3am binge watching sessions!
