Money Down The Drain: Team POPxo Talks About The One Beauty Product They Regret Buying

When it comes to beauty products, it’s all a gamble. Just imagine spending close to Rs. 3,000 on a single lipstick, only to find out that it hardly stays on your lips, ah, that’s a nightmare!

Beauty products are expensive and as hoarders, we spend a large chunk of our salaries on them. However, not all the ones we’ve bought are worth the splurge. So that you don’t make the same mistake our team made, we’re listing down some of our worst buys.

Team POPxo Shares The Beauty Products That Didn’t Impress Them At All

When it comes to buying makeup and skincare products, Team POPxo is sabse aage! All of us love spending our salaries on makeup and there’s no stopping us. But along comes a product that turns all the excitement into sadness as it basically money going down the drain.

Here are some of those purchases we definitely regretted making!

Anandita Malhotra | Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick, Stoned Rose

I was very excited to try out the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick collection and asked my brother to buy one for me from Singapore. This was last year before the brand came to India and I really wanted to give it a shot. The Sephora helper told me to pick the shade Stoned Rose instead of Pillow Talk and so I went with it. The colour was just not suited to my skin tone and made me look washed out and pale. The formula was buttery but almost so buttery that the lipstick barely stayed on my lips. While with most other lipsticks, I would be happy to make it work with a lip liner or mixed with other shades, doing that to this one just broke my heart. It’s for Rs. 3150 and it’s a lipstick, I expected it to be out of this world. The only saving grace was the luxe packaging which looks hella gorgeous sitting on my makeup stand. Other than that, I’m fine with my trusty M.A.C!

Sharon Alphanso | Maybelline New York Volume Express Hypercurl Mascara

I’ve used Maybelline makeup products before, and I think they’re pretty good (especially the Fit Me range and Super Stay Matte Crayons) However, I can’t get myself to like the Maybelline New York Volume Express Hypercurl Mascara. I don’t know if it’s the dry formula, oddly curved wand, or the meh plastic packaging- it just didn’t work for me. Post application my natural lashes looked faker than a pair of cheap, stiff falsies. I’d pass on this one.

Kanupriya | LANEIGE Eye Sleeping Mask

I have dark circles and apart from being a night owl, I’m also a self-proclaimed expert at trying DIY home remedies. Potatoes? Tried. Coffee? Tried. Green tea? Of course. Nothing helped. But then I came across Laneige Eye Sleeping Mask and that simply… DID NOT change my life! While the puffiness and dark circles are still there, guess what’s not there with me? The Rs. 2,000 I spent on this 25 ml box. I even kept a photographic journal to make sure that I was not missing anything but even after using it for more than 2 months, there was no noticeable change. I guess my tired eyes and I are meant for each other.

Khushboo Sharma | Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip & Cheek Color

I purchased this because of the product description. Also, kinda got swayed away with how creamy the formula looked in the pictures. Well for a product that comes at just some 600 bucks, I should have known better. I bought it back in 2019 and used it only once. The formula is extremely drying and the product sticks…not just to your lips but to your very soul. Seriously, I had to use micellar water, vaseline, and then some oil to get rid of it. Just FYI, I wore it to a date night and it was only after reaching home that I finally noticed the horrible feathering. Still haunts my soul!

Aayushi Pareek | Swiss Beauty Metallic Liquid Eyeshadow

When it comes to liquid eyeshadows, nothing can beat the quality of Stila or the Natasha Denona Liquid Eyeshadows! But you gotta admit, they do end up leaving a hole in our pockets as they are a tad bit too expensive. For somebody who barely uses liquid eyeshadows, I tried to search for a dupe to use for my bestie’s wedding. I bought the Swiss Beauty Metallic Liquid Eyeshadow in the shade 06 and honestly, it was such a mistake. The formula is weirdly goopy, streaky, and oh-so-sticky! The other variants were not so bad but this particular shade… I’ll advise you to skip it.

Drishti Kapadia | Nykaa Black Magic! Gel Eyeliner – Jet Black

When it comes to eyeliners, I love using gel formulas. When the Nykaa Gel Pot launched, I was definitely excited to get my hands on it, thanks to the earlier formulas by the brand that I had tried and loved! To my surprise, not only did the gel pot dry up within a couple of uses (5, if I am being honest) but it also didn’t apply smoothly. It also made my eyelids itch which made me a little worriedd. So, all in all, if I ever had the option to purchase it again, I would save my money!

Abhilasha Tyagi | Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock

The Neutrogena sunscreen gets rave reviews in almost every beauty list and I got it since it came so highly recommended. Unfortunately, it does the opposite of TLC to my face, all with watery eyes, itchiness and what not. That’s one product that’s just not for me.

We bet some of these really shocked you, didn’t they?!
