Taapsee Pannu is one helluva busy woman right now. She has wrapped up the shooting of Tushar Hiranandani’s much-awaited Saand Ki Aankh. In the movie, she will be seen filling the shoes of Chandro Tomar aka Shooter Dadi. Taapsse also has a number of upcoming projects like Rashmi Rocket, Womaniya and Tadka in her kitty right now. The girl-next-door made it big in the movies without any backing or godfather in the industry. But who says her journey has been an easy one? Well, surviving in B-town isn’t a piece of cake.
In an interview with a national daily, the actress talked about Bollywood, remunerations and the problem of unequal pay in the industry. The actress who has given several hits like Mulk, Manmarziyaan and Badla in the recent past, admitted that she has definitely upped her game in Bollywood and seen drastic increment in her remuneration but it’s still nowhere close to what her male counterparts earn.
“In the last two years, my remuneration has skyrocketed, although the figure is still far off from (what) my male counterparts (earn). Producers have been happy to accommodate the price I quote. But I am in no rush to earn all the money in one go. I will never make a film suffer because of my price,” said the actress.
Talking about her struggle in the industry, the actress said, “I have waited for a long time, been at the mercy of people who would decide if I can do a project. Today, I have the power to make films happen.”
Besides Taapsee, Saand Ki Aankh will also see actress Bhumi Pednekar in the role of Prakashi Tomar. About her co-star, the actress said, “We had the uphill task of making people believe that projects led by women can be commercially successful. Bhumi and I knew that we are on the same team. I have always happily co-existed with most of my colleagues, so bickering was never on the radar.”
Taapsee’s film will clash with Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 4. Talking about the conflict, Taapsee said, “Akshay sir called Bhumi and me after he saw our film’s trailer. He was so encouraging, and said that the teaser gave him goosebumps.” Question her about the impending box-office clash, and she insists that things have changed for the better in Bollywood. “Competition is no longer a war with each other. It’s all about upping the game and bettering yourself. There are few who will want to pull the other down, but that’s not how the industry largely works.”
Saand Ki Aankh is slated to release this Diwali on October 25.
