The fashion industry is boldly embracing sustainability, making quirky and eco-friendly designs cool—and we are all for it. This was evident on the second day of the ongoing Lakmé Fashion Week, held in partnership with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) at The Grand, New Delhi. The day saw a stunning collection from the designer trio – David Abraham, Rakesh Thakore, and Kevin Nigel – who are known for their minimalist yet visionary designs.
Their collection for the fashion show, titled ‘Finding Beauty’, truly lived up to its name. At first glance, the designs might appear to be typical Indian silhouettes with exquisite detailing, but there’s a remarkable twist: all the garments were made from recycled and discarded items. The post on Instagram read, “The collection reimagines familiar items—from discarded sweet wrappers and brightly coloured plastic sheets to sacking materials and retro film or cassette tapes—creating bejewelled surfaces and intricate embroideries in a glamorous upcycling of almost-forgotten memorabilia.”
The highlight of the show was actress Shefali Shah, who graced the runway as the showstopper, wearing a saree crafted through sustainable practices. She looked gorgeous in a black, shimmery saree, paired with a long-sleeved blouse and a black belt cinching her waist. What made her look truly stand out was the fact that her saree was made from bin bags, with sequins crafted from discarded X-rays.
We love how the designers beautifully blended fashion with eco-consciousness, making a powerful statement that sustainability can be stylish. Well, only people who see beauty in everything can truly make a difference. Kudos to the team!
