It’s been over a month since we lost talented Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. His untimely death by suicide not only left everyone shocked, it also stirred a number of debates around nepotism and mental health in the film industry. While the actor’s last movie, Dil Bechara, is all set for its release on Hotstar tomorrow (July 24), and his co-star Sanjana Sanghi has expressed her displeasure with the ‘circus’ being created out of his tragic demise.

The insensitive media coverage and the announcement of films based on Sushant’s life has saddened Sanjana beyond words. Talking to a media portal, she urged everyone to allow the actor’s loved ones to come to terms with his death. “It really saddens me to see any kind of circus being created out of such a tragedy. I urge people to give time and respect to all of us reeling with this loss”, she said.
‘This Is Not Fun’: Sanjana On Promoting Dil Bechara Without Sushant
The actress, who was also seen in films like Rockstar, Fukrey Returns and Hindi Medium, is busy in promoting Dil Bechara (her debut film as a lead actor), but said that she is still in a ‘weird and numb space’ after losing her ‘partner-in-crime’. Talking about how she is taking each day as it comes, the 23-year-old actress said, “It’s not possible for a human being to feel such extremes of both happiness and gratitude for the fact that it’s my debut as a lead coming out. But the grief and shock of losing my partner-in-crime has left me in this weird, numb space. I’m too young to deal with such things, and trying to do my best to fulfil my commitments. It’s only when the storm will end, will I be able to sit back and really look into what I’m feeling”.
Sanjana asserted that promoting Dil Bechaha without Sushant isn’t fun and the only reason she is active in the promotions is that she wants Sushant to look over and be proud of her. She also said that she would probably be cooped up in a corner if it were up to her.
She’s Okay With Dil Bechara Releasing On An OTT Platform
Due to the pandemic, some of the filmmakers are preferring to release their movies on OTT platforms rather than postponing them indefinitely. The makers of Dil Bechara took a similar route and announced the release of the film on Disney+ Hotstar, making it available for everyone (including the non-subscribers) as a tribute to the late actor. On being asked whether she is okay with the film not getting a theatrical release, the actress said that this is the kind of release that Sushant deserves. “You can’t be okay, in the sense that you set out to make a theatrical film. If somebody had told me that a pandemic will hit, two years ago, when we had started, I’d have laughed. You aren’t okay with things, but as human beings, you adapt. With this OTT release, we can’t think of a better way to give tribute to Sushant. It’s the release that he deserves”, Sanjana said.
Sanjana On Sushant’s Mental Health
Calling Sushant a ‘passionate and sincere artist’, Sanjana said that she is ‘nobody to comment’ on his mental health as she is not a psychologist. Adding that being upset on a particular day doesn’t equate to being unstable in general, the actress said, “All I know is I was working with a passionate, sincere artist who’d do his job better than what was expected out of him. He was always there. Maybe if I knew him in deeper personal capacities, I’d have answered this”.
Well, we completely agree with Sanjana. It’s pretty clear that Sushant touched a lot of lives and now it’s up to us to honour him by letting him rest in peace.
