Move over shopping one brand at a time. Fashion collaborations seem to be the new norm among designers now. Through these, not only do two brands combine their creative juices but we also get the best of both worlds. Another thing that excites me about fashion collabs is the idea of having something limited edition in my closet. Oh, how I love one-of-a-kind fashion!
Such partnerships are becoming more and more common in India, and they definitely create the buzz that is required by tapping into the partner’s assets. Neat, isn’t it? So, we have compiled a list of such collaborations that have caught our fashionable eye this season.
Masaba Gupta X Rhea Kapoor
The Masaba Gupta and Rhea Kapoor collaboration is the most recent and special one indeed. Why, you ask? Well, the collection is inspired by their moms, Nina Gupta and Sunita Kapoor respectively. For instance, the clothes worn by Rhea and Masaba in the picture above are inspired by old handwritten letters that Masaba says, “get lost in translation today”. The two designers call this a romanticised portrait of love and longing. Isn’t that lovely? What’s more, this collab celebrates curvier bodies too, thereby becoming a more inclusive brand in society.

Rheson is a fashion brand by celebrity sisters Rhea and Sonam Kapoor. The name of the brand is an amalgamation of the first three letters of their names – Rhe and Son. Fascinating, no? The partnership between the label and Shoppers Stop did wonders for both of them. Rheson was relatively new when it joined hands with Shoppers Stop–which, in turn, got a fresh twist to its already existing collection. Now, isn’t that a win/win situation?!

Renowned designer Manish Arora did a second collaboration with the online shopping portal Koovs, this time introducing ‘gender-neutral’ lines. This is a unisex collection of denim, t-shirts, dresses, jackets, activewear, accessories and more. The women’s wear also features Manish Arora’s signature Native American prints. If you haven’t checked out that amazing collection yet, do it already. I’ve picked up of one my favourites for you right here!

Masaba is magical with her work and so is Tribe by Amrapali. Imagine what a collab of the two of these would be like?! This is indeed one of the coolest partnerships of 2019. The collection is called ‘The Ghana Ghana’, a jewellery collection which is inspired by the Akan tribe from West Africa. The designs here include tribal patterns such as pots, masks, animals with signature Masaba motifs such as palms, abstract art, etc.
PUMA x RUBIK
PUMA x RUBIK
PUMA recently joined forces with RUBIK’s Brand Ltd to create a collection inspired by the iconic Rubiks’ Cube. Doesn’t that sound all-so-colourful and fun? Well, yes, the collection is a vibrant one indeed. It includes footwear and clothing with graphic prints and fresh design elements that you cannot miss. If you wish to amp up your dull outfit, don’t think twice and go for PUMA X RUBIK.

We’ve all been in love with Karl Lagerfeld’s creation. This year was definitely special as we witnessed the luxe label’s collaboration with the German fashion house Cover Story. This collection was designed in consideration for Indian body types and our cultural preferences. Isn’t that amazing!

We all wanna keep up with the Kardashians and Jenners of the world, don’t we? So, when the Jenner sisters collaborated with Forever 21, we were on cloud nine. Kendall + Kylie for Forever 21 was one of the most exciting collabs of 2019, exclusively curated by the sisters. But we do feel it could have been more glamorous. Nonetheless, we wouldn’t not go for anything with Jenner attached to it.
No mention of fashion collabs would be complete without mentioning the much-talked-about Giambattista Valli x H&M collaboration. The collection was all about tulle (that’s so GBV!), intricate beadwork, cultured freshwater pearls and the most stunning dresses you’ve ever seen. This was a mega collab indeed as the collection sold out within a few hours! But was, thankfully, restocked later. You can still choose your picks on the H&M website and app. Of all, this airy chiffon dress in metallised fibre is my fave. Its neckline is decorated with sparkly stones and is complemented by a flared silhouette.
Which one of these collabs is your favourite?
