Courtesy of the NMACC, we have been able to relish copious amounts of fashion and style ever since its March 2023 inauguration. From the ‘India In Fashion’ exhibit to the red carpet looks served during the inaugural events, we haven’t really been looking anywhere else for our fashion fix. And speaking of head-turning looks at the culture centre, we just stumbled upon some pictures of Nita Ambani from the coffee table book launch event at the NMACC.
The pictures have been posted by an Instagram fan page and Nita is looking her stylish best in an embroidered Anamika Khanna pantsuit. However, it is her unique bag that has all our attention. It is the very rare Neige Faubourg Birkin 20 White Matte Aligator handbag which can be bought for around 400,000 USD or Rs 3.2 crores (as per a 2022 private sale). I mean who’d carry a bag worth a bungalow if not Nita Ambani?!
The question is—why is this bag so damn expensive? Well, we have the answer. Read on:
Why So Expensive?
Hermès Birkin bags are notoriously difficult to purchase and not just because of the exorbitant price tag. The brand is very selective in producing these bags and even more selective in selling them. One has to literally wait for months (even years) to be offered one of these bags or needs to indulge in a lot of pre-shopping to make a rapport with their sales associates. Now, Faubourg Birkins are ever rarer than a basic Birkin (yes, the guts to call it “basic”!) which explains the price tag!
Story Behind The Unique Design
Hermès released the very first Faubourg Brikin in 2019. Its design captured the architectural grandeur of the brand’s flagship store at 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris. Yes, the bag legit looked like a store! Pretty unique, right? This was the very first-time Hermès had released a 20 cm bag which made it all the more attractive for collectors. In 2021, the brand released two more versions of the Faubourg bag and Nita Ambani owns one of them—the Snow Faubourg.
Well, guess what? The Faubourg owned by Nita is the most expensive version of the bag. We’d say we are shook but TBH, we expect Nita to carry nothing but the most expensive bags in the world!
