From Chic Sarees To ’90s Fashion, These Iconic Sridevi Outfits Will Forever Have Our Heart
No talk about icons would be truly complete without mentioning Sridevi, a trailblazer who pioneered many facets in the Indian film industry. With her talent depicted in her choices of films and unparalleled dance moves, there was quite no one like the star that was Sridevi. Today, on what would have been the Bollywood actress’s 57th birthday, we look back at some of her most iconic fashion moments, ones which are still instilled in our memory.
Sridevi’s Most Iconic Looks
From Chandni to English Vinglish and everything in between, here’s taking a look at Sridevi’s most iconic fashion moments in films.
Mr. India
To say that Mr. India, with its distinctive plotline that was brand new to Bollywood, was a hit would be an understatement. The audiences flocked to the theatres in plenty and shortly after it was released, the film achieved a massive fan following. It was also one of the movies which established Sridevi as a raging fashion icon, her solid blue saree seeing many recreations by her fans.

Chandni
Another movie with an array of iconic looks by the actress was Chandni, a film in which she starred alongside Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna. Breezy, delicate kurtas aside, Sridevi’s eye-catching yellow saree teamed with a sleeveless blouse was an instant hit. Paired with a simple pearl necklace and earrings, it remains to be one of the most talked-about costumes in Bollywood.
Nagina
A different take on costumes was seen in the 1986 film Nagina, which saw the actress play the role of a shape-shifting snake. To match with the storyline, the movie saw Sridevi dressed in archaic attires, most of them complimented with heavy jewellery. Her pristine white lehenga and vintage choli featuring intricate detailing, however, is one that stood out as one of the most iconic looks by the actress.
Chaalbaaz
With the actress playing a double role alongside Rajnikant, the comedy-drama film saw the actress in a varied wardrobe. On the western attire front, apart from high-rise jeans, T-shirts and blouses, bright colours, and dungarees, Sridevi also sported remarkable maxi gowns that would fit in perfectly in the current day and age.
Laadla
Synonymous with the fashion of the ’90s, Sridevi-starer Laadla put to the forefront a number of trends that were a rage at the time. Hair ribbons, headbands, printed shirts and outfits with a touch of glimmer aside, the actress was also seen in casually-paired co-ords and dresses that paved the way for fashion enthusiasts.
Gumraah
With her short hair and vintage ensembles, Sridevi’s outfits in the 1993 movie Gumraah stood out of the crowd. Shirts emblazoned with details, colour-coordinated headbands, in-vogue accessories, and layered waistcoats were a mainstay in the actress’s wardrobe in the film, emulated by many.
Judaai
Sridevi’s varying character arc in the movie Judaai was smartly depicted through her fashion moments. Plain sarees and simple looks were replaced with embroidered, heavy versions and ornate jewellery to depict her transformations from a simple housewife to a rich one.
English Vinglish
Her array of cotton sarees with elegance to spare were as hit as the movie English Vinglish. Wearing her floral and checked versions with minimal jewellery throughout, her stills in New York saw the actress layering them beautifully with solid trench coats, giving us some iconic fashion statements. We love!
