Having combination skin means I have to master not one, but two skills. Learning to treat both, the dry and oily areas on my face has been quite a journey. But thankfully, I figured out a skincare routine that’s helping me out. While my skin feels more oily in the summer, it tends to get drier in the winter. This season, my skin has been overwhelmed by the drop in temperatures and got extremely dry.
Use A Gentle Cleanser
It’s a known fact that over-exfoliating your skin can cause damage. This season, I ditched harsh face washes, scrubs, and chemical peels. I have been enjoying using the DHC Beauty Face Wash Powder. It is mild, yet effective. It foams up just enough to give you that clean feel without stripping the skin of moisture.
Swap Toner For A Hydrating Mist
When you have dry, acne-prone skin, it’s best to skip toners and use face mists instead. I’ve been using the Kama Ayurveda Pure Rose Water face mist that keeps my skin hydrated and soothed.
Apply A Gentle Serum
While salicylic acid serums have worked well for my combination skin in summer, they dry out my skin in winter. I’ve been using the MyGlamm 10% Niacinamide Clarifying Serum which is hydrating and soothing. It also works on fading old acne scars, reducing texture and dullness.
Layering Is The Secret
Once the serum has completely absorbed into my skin, I seal in all that goodness with a light moisturiser. The Manish Malhotra Amla Moisturising Gel quenches my skin and makes it plump.
Facial Oil Is Your Friend
It is a myth that facial oils cause acne. Adding the right blend of oils to your routine can help you deal with dry and flaky skin. I spend 5 minutes every day massaging a facial oil on my face and neck. The BiE Illuminating Face Oil is a great lightweight facial oil perfect for combination skin types.
Don’t Skip The SPF
I don’t like heavy, creamy sunscreens, I am always afraid they will break me out. The POPxo Beach Bum Multi-Use Sunscreen Spray SPF 50 PA+++ is my favourite spray-on sunscreen. It is ultra-light and feels like nothing on the skin. The best part is that it can even be reapplied over makeup. I use this every couple of hours and dab my skin with loose powder to minimise shine.
