Who doesn’t want flawless, glowing skin on their wedding day?! We do and we’re sure you do too. And while you’re going all out with the salon and at-home treatments, did you know that there are some everyday mistakes you could be making that are coming in the way of you making a glowing, radiant bride? Yup, if you truly want all your efforts to show results, here are a few skincare mistakes you need to stop making ASAP!
1. Are you drinking enough water?
Are you?! We put this one right at the top only because it is so important. On an average, you must consume 2 – 3 litres of water everyday. Water helps flush out toxins and gives a natural glow to your face. Also, inadequate amounts of water could result in dullness and early wrinkling of the skin. Drink plenty of water throughout the day for not just gorgeous skin on the big day, but for your hair and body too.
2. Are you over exfoliating your skin?
The more you scrub, the better your skin becomes. NO! While exfoliation is good for your skin, anything in excess is bad. A good face scrub helps get rid of dead skin cells, cleans your pores and leaves your skin feeling fresh and radiant. But exfoliating too often strips your skin off the essential oils and the natural protective barrier that your skin develops. This leads to dryness, rashes and also makes your skin more sensitive. A mild exfoliator should not be used more than once or twice a week, and you’ll be wedding ready!
3. Uh-oh, did you sleep with your makeup on?
Okay, you can skip this step on that one crazy night with the girls. But do not make it a habit. Sleeping with makeup on clogs your pores and in turn, makes them appear larger. In fact, make it a habit to clean your face every night before going to bed.
4. Did you pop that pimple?
None of us like it when we have a breakout. Even more when we have to attend a function. And a lot of us end up popping it and are happy about finally getting rid of that pimple. But girls, when you pop a pimple, you gift yourself a lifelong scar. And if you don’t want that, stay calm and let the pimple heal on its own.
5. Stepping out without a sunscreen?
We can’t stress enough on how important a sunscreen is to protect your skin against harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun. While UVB causes tanning, UVA cause skin ageing. Wear a sunscreen everyday with SPF30 or higher. Even if the weather seems cloudy or you don’t see too much sun outside, it is advised to still apply a sunscreen at least 20 mins before stepping out.
6. Is your pillowcase changed often?
You’ve probably heard this before but never paid as much attention to it. But as a bride-to-be, maybe now is the time. First of all, switch from a cotton pillowcase to a silk one instead. The friction between your skin and the cotton pillow cover can cause creases and fine lines. Secondly, make sure you change your pillowcase every 5 days. Pillowcases accumulate dirt and oil from your scalp and then transfer it to your face. Now you don’t want that, do you?!
7. Are your makeup brushes clean?
Oh my God, this one is such a culprit! Dust, dirt and buildup from your makeup…your brush holds all of it. And yet we get lazy when it’s time to clean them. Now that you’re being extra protective about your skin, make sure you clean your brushes every time before using them. Invest in a good brush cleanser and store them at a location where they do not come in contact with dust.
8. Indulging in way too many hot showers?
While a long, lazy hot water bath is the most relaxing thing ever, it is damaging your hair and skin more than you ever thought. Hot water can remove the essential oils and moisture of your skin. In fact, not just while bathing, steer clear of hot water every time you wash your face too. For your body too, hot showers are best avoided.
9. Wedding planning giving you sleepless nights?
Girls, we understand how stressful planning your wedding can get. But we’d like you to know that stress and late nights together can harm your skin to a great extent. Dullness, under eye dark circles and skin that lacks luster are all the evils that stress brings with itself. In the months leading up to your wedding, make sure that you sleep well and maintain a relaxed daily routine. Don’t stress over the little details and rather enjoy this beautiful phase of your life.
10. Are you having too much junk?
As a bride-to-be, we believe your calendar is packed with parties, time out with the girls, shopping trips and so much more. And that often results in unhealthy eating which in turn makes your skin look dull and lifeless. This is the time you need to be extra conscious about your diet. Keep the alcohol and caffeine to a minimum and include a lot of fruits and green vegetables in your diet. Trust us, you’ll notice a natural healthy glow in no time at all!
