Glass skin this, glass skin that. I’m tired of watching people with already perfect skin layer product after product to make their skin glow. Don’t they realise that for those of us with large pores, and insane acne, layering heavy product after heavy product for that diamond-esque shine is impossible?
Thankfully, by now, we all seem to have accepted that the coveted dewy glow will never come from a highlighter, no matter how amazing the formula is. So how do you get remotely close to glass skin, without a skincare routine that takes over your life? It’s quite easy actually – by mixing, and matching your products!
Some Rules To Follow
- Don’t overdo the acids and harsh actives.
- Remember to always hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
- Be careful while mixing products that have Vitamin C with high concentrations of AHAs, BHAs or retinol.
- Products that have both glycolic and lactic acid are much more gentle than using each acid separately.
Now, Let’s Do Some Chemistry
Combination 1
The snail mucin + hyaluronic acid combination has been all the rage on the internet, and for good reason! The COSRX Advanced Snail Mucin paired with the Minimalist Hyaluronic Acid provides intense hydration while promoting skin repair and regeneration.
Together, they soothe inflammation and enhance your skin’s overall health. The best part is that this combination suits all skin types, making it a balanced approach for a smoother complexion.
Combination 2
Blending niacinamide with a product that has both glycolic and lactic acid can be life-changing, especially if you deal with the unfortunate case of occasional breakouts. The Ordinary’s Niacinamide Serum and Dermatica’s GL Complex Cream are two of my personal favourites.
Niacinamide addresses uneven tone and locks the moisture in, while glycolic and lactic acids provide exfoliation for a smoother texture. This combo can potentially minimize pores, fine lines and hyperpigmentation.
However start with patch tests, and follow usage guidelines. Always consult a dermatologist if your skin reacts negatively to any of these products!
Combination 3
Pairing a vitamin C serum with a gel-based moisturiser also works. Gel-based moisturisers deliver active ingredients to the skin, and contain skin barrier-strengthening components like ceramides, glycerin, and vitamin E. A go-to recommendation would be Dr. Sheth’s Amla VC20 Vitamin C Serum and the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel.
Vitamin C provides antioxidant protection, brightens skin, and stimulates collagen. When followed by a gel moisturiser, the lightweight formula hydrates without overwhelming, and together, they promote a wonderfully radiant complexion!
In addition to these products, make sure to double cleanse every time you leave the house. Don’t skip out on exfoliation and use a hydrating mask, at least once a week.
Just remember, it’s not about how many steps you’re following or even how much your products cost! Just focus on how your skin reacts to each combination, keep that sunscreen on and you’ll figure it out!
