How do you know that your skin is actually healthy? Is it enough that it’s free of pimples and looks good from a distance? There’s definitely more to it than that! Here are some indicators that you actually have healthy skin…and what to do if you don’t!
1. Healthy Skin Is Hydrated
Your skin is constantly shedding dead skin cells which are not even visible to the naked eye. However, when your skin is dehydrated, it sheds a lot of skin cells at the same time, which leads to flaky skin. If you have flaky or dry skin, you know what you need to do to fix it… Drink lots of water and don’t forget to moisturize!
2. Even Complexion
Having a consistent and even complexion, no matter how light or dark it is, is a sign of healthy skin. Pigmentation, blotchy complexion and dark circles are all signs that your skin needs some tender loving care and you need some more nutrients in your diet!
3. Soft And Smooth Skin
Blackheads, whiteheads and bumps on the skin are all indicators of skin that needs some work. If you have skin that feels uneven, you need to start a solid skincare regime to combat it. Include plenty of vitamin A, C and E in your diet for a smoother texture.
4. Skin Feels ‘Normal’
Ideally, your skin should feel like it’s not there at all. Skin that feels taut or itches is another sign that it’s not healthy. Tightness of skin means that it’s too dry and you need to moisturize it. If your skin regularly feels too tight and stretchy, it means you’re using a cleansing product that’s too harsh and dehydrating.
5. Acne-Free Skin
Although acne is a normal part of adolescence, it clears up as you grow older. Either way, acne occurs when you have pores that are clogged with excess sebum. A good skincare regime can reduce the number of pimples and regulate excess production of sebum. Make sure you don’t keep touching your face – it transfers bacteria from your fingers to your face and increases acne!
6. Small Pores
Small pores give your skin an even texture and reduce chances of blocked pores and blackheads. Use a cleanser to remove any dirt and grime from your face and an alcohol-free toner to shrink pores after that. Open pores are a sign that you need to include a toner in your skincare routine.
7. No Redness
Sensitive skin tends to get red easily. There are many ways to keep irritated skin in check and reduce redness. Invest in anti-inflammatory moisturizing products to reduce irritation and redness. Use gentle cleansers and always use a good toner after that.
8. Skin With No Sunspots
Sun spots and pigmentation are a big no no for healthy skin. They indicate that you have spent too much time out in the sun without proper protection. Always wear a sunscreen before stepping out, whether it’s sunny or cloudy. And protect the sensitive skin around your eyes by wearing sunglasses when out in the sun.
9. No Premature Wrinkles
Wrinkles come naturally with age, but if you start seeing sagging skin and wrinkles in your 20s itself, it could be a sign of concern. The most important thing to do is to include plenty of antioxidants in your diet to combat the free radicals that attack collagen and elastin.
10. Finally, Because Your Skin Glows
The best indicator of healthy skin is that it glows even without makeup. Spend some extra time every night to cleanse-tone-serum-moisturize and you’ll see the difference in your skin’s quality!
