5 Short Hair Trends That’ll Convince You To Go Shorter In 2023

Even if 2023’s short hairstyles aren’t particularly new, a short chop always feels like a new lease on life. There is something for everyone this year because nostalgia will be a core concept. We’re noticing short shag cuts and curly fringes make a comeback on the scene. The major comeback of lobs and pixie cuts is also gonna be welcomed by kids who grew up in the 1990s. So we will undoubtedly feature Y2K trends like “effortless” bedhead and platinum bobs until 2024 (and possibly beyond, but we can’t imagine that far ahead just yet).

If you want to shed a few inches in 2023 (or simply change up your go-to short style), get ready to take a lot of screenshots ahead. Here, we’ve compiled a list of trendy short hairstyles that we predict will be popular in 2023.

The Bixie

What do you get when you shake together two parts of bob and one part of pixie (shaken, not stirred) and add a dash of punk to it? A Bixie. Like a mullet but much chicer, it’s a little shorter at the top and a little longer at the bottom. Request your hairdresser to add layers of face-framing length. Every six to eight weeks, you’ll need to trim it to keep it from crossing the line into the punk or mullet zone.

’90s Lob

We’re digging out our cropped cardigans and cutting our hair into a Posh Spice shoulder-length bob because the ’90s are so very 2023 right now (steely gaze not included). It provides a lovely, bouncy blowout yet is still easily retracted from the face. A full layer cut with a blunt cut just above the shoulders also adds more movement. The style complements the majority of face shapes, but thicker hair really makes the swingy shape pop.

Curly Fringe FTW

Someone at some point completely lied and said that people with curly hair types can’t have bangs. They are not limited to having bangs; a short, tousled fringe makes them look particularly stylish. On shorter hair, curly bangs look coolly ’80s and edgy. They also make the face appear softer, especially on someone with prominent cheekbones. Face-framing layers are a great addition to the look, but we prefer them when they are completely separated from the rest of the hair, just like Alia Shawkat’s cheeky cut.

Short Wolf Haircut

Since Billie Eilish is the patron saint of wolf cuts, the rock-and-roll shaggy wolf haircut has been popular for some time, but the short length gives it a more modern, up-to-date look for the new year. It’s the ideal style to highlight the natural texture of your hair. It can be blow-dried, straightened, curled with a curling iron, or styled with bangs or without bangs. With this cut, you can be anyone you want to be (but being Joan Jett or Billie Eilish is the real goal).

Pixie

The pixie has long been a representation of courage and radical change in hairstyles. It’s a revolutionary way to begin any new year. If you’re having issues finding the ideal pixie cut, think about your natural texture and try to work with it rather than against it. A pixie should require little to no maintenance every day, apart from regular trims to maintain the length every six weeks.
