We love it when Indian designers go big and capture some of our wildest sartorial dreams with their creations. We are talking big Barbie gown energy, grand silhouettes, glitter, and oodles of drama. And as fun as that sounds, it takes mad talent to actually bring a collection that lives up to this prompt. Few have aced the idea of OTT glamm and even fewer have delivered it consistently. Dolly J is surely one of them and last night she showed us how it’s done at the FDCI India Couture Week.
Titled Meraki, the collection drives inspiration from the serene fluidity which lies within the heart of Jazz. Metallic hues reigned the ramp and we spotted smooth transitions, dramatic silhouettes, fluid fabrics, rich embroideries, and ruffled accents. It was a visual fest and we were literally screaming when Shilpa Shetty took over the stage as the showstopper!
Hey Barbie, Is That You?
Last night, the show-stopping look was a gown that screamed peak “Shilpa Shetty” aesthetics. The plunging halter neck beauty featured concave cut-out details on the waist that was accentuated with delicate string-like accents. While we loved the structured and heavily embroidered bodice, the skirt was kept dramatic but relatively clean with lesser handwork. This is a signature Dolly J detail to ensure that the flounce of the skirt is not compromised and we love how it has worked out for Shilpa’s look. It’s like a Barbie gown, only bolder and fresher.
An asymmetrical necklace, soft waves, nude lips, and subtle smoky eyes finished the look. But wait, there’s more. You’ve got to check out the back of the gown!
Sexy, right?
Dolly J’s show has further confirmed that metallic hues are here to stay and the memo for the upcoming festive season is quite clear—go big or go home. We are here for it!
